we stayed two nights in feb.13. first when we came in to colombo and second before we left.
i must admit my expectation were high, and i got disappointed.
the pool area was not attended nicely, the pool itself full of old leaves, not enough sun beds for all guests and those supplied with dirty mattresses . on our first breakfast one of the waiters silled a whole pot of coffe on the floor of the restaurant. of course that can happen but what surprised me a lot was that nobaody cared to clean up the mass, so that directly beside our table the whole mess stayed without nobody taken care???
another thing is that when you pay more than 317.- uss for a night you dont want to get surcharged for an lattemaciato in the morning for your breakfast.
all in all the wallawwa is a niclely located hotel but highly over prized with a service that has to improve a lot.

After a long journey from Australia I arrived in the middle of night and stayed in this oasis near Colombo Airport. First impressions were great. I felt welcome immediately. My Garden Suite was spacious and comfortable, with a huge bathroom and a superbly comfortable bed. I awoke the next day to a beautiful property and a relaxed warm atmosphere. Beautiful serene grounds and excellent service. I had a wonderful breakfast of traditional hoppers then enjoyed the beautify gardens and library, as well as a delicious lunch until my pick up at noon to take me to Galle. I could have easily spent a few nights here, it really is a beautiful property. I highly recommend The Wallawwa as a destination in it's own right for a visit to Colombo or an in-between before your adventures in Sri Lanka.

We booked this hotel based on the reviews and we weren't disappointed. Totally laid back and chilled, wonderful (if a little spicy) food for dinner and superb Garden Room, although beware the mosquitos which are plentiful.
The gardens are immaculate, there is a zen feel to the place, wish we had stayed two nights instead of having to rush out the next morning.
Staff were brilliant, we had breakfast very, very early and then transported to the airport, a mere 20 minutes away, no worries.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are lovely and roomy, massive bathrooms, like a giant wetroom

We stayed 3 nights before embarking on our tour of Sri Lanka. Immediately you came through the gate from the bustle outside it was different, tranquil & peaceful. The gardens were lovely, the food excellent and the staff very attentive. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We stayed on our first and last night in Sri Lanka and for somewhere so close to the airport it was ideal. Generally the food quality was very good, as long as you chose right. We stayed the first night in room 1 which was OK but our last night was in room 19, which was much better, although either room was spacious with a cavernous bathroom. Unfortunately our last night was independence day and the hotel was unable to serve alchohol, which was very dissapointing, prior warning would have been useful especially when you are looking forward to a cold beer after a long journey.

We stayed here for one night before flying out of Colombo, and wished we had an extra day to enjoy the peace and tranquility. Although only 15 mins from the airport, it is not under the flight path, and we found our whole stay very restful. The whole atmosphere is very quiet and calming. The service is excellent - when told that we had an early departure, the staff started breakfast half and hour earlier for our benefit. The rooms are very comfortable, and the food was very good too - we hope to be back!

We spent one night here before flying out of Colombo, using the hotel for what it is – an airport hotel. It is a nice place. Nice room with a great bathroom – although no hot water whatsoever in the morning which resulted in me having a cold shower and husband not having one at all so that’s not good value for money. There is a small outside space off the room, but plenty of space within the hotel to sit around.

Food was good, although nothing special compared with other food we ate in Sri Lanka. Having said that, I did have a delicious breakfast of bacon and maple syrup crepes.

I enjoyed the relaxed informal atmosphere with music and the more relaxed approach of the staff and I found it quite a refreshing way to end our trip.

We arrived at 3 in the afternoon and didn’t leave until 11 the following morning, so I think with hindsight I would have preferred to have been in Colombo as we didn’t go there at all during our trip.

However, if you want a perfectly acceptable, relaxed and stylish place to stay before flying then you could do worse than a night here.

I feel a bit bad about the average rating, but with the lack of hot water and the fact that I am submitting several reviews at once on Sri Lanka, the rating is comparative - and TA doesn't have a "good" option, which is what this would otherwise be.
