Millennium project, pedestrian wooden bridge between Rapperswil and Hurden separating the lakes of Zurich, and the Obersee, constructed at the turn of the century, and inaugurated in April 2001. At about 920 yards, it is the longest wooden bridge in Switzerland (841 m) built on more than 200 supporting piles made of untreated oak with the expected lifetime of 50 to 70 years. Historically, it is a part of the Way of St. James, Jakobsweg or Via Jacobi in Switzerland, in between St Gallen and Einsiedeln Abbey. Scenic route offering beautiful panoramic views overs the lakes and surrounding mountains, makes a nice walk from Pfaeffikon to Rapperswil.

I remember Rapperswil fondly every Christmas when I hang the handmade ornaments we purchased there while travelling through Europe. Rapperswil was a quaint scenic town with rich beauty,

It's a really nice nature area and frequented by lots of people, but it's a very simple bridge and they can do more with it. For joggers it's annoying as people walk side-by-side and they make it difficult to pass and they're oblivious to other people until you're right behind them. It is also quite narrow in certain places.

If you fancy a nice easy walk in the Rapperswil area, the wooden bridge is perfect. There is a tiny bridge chapel not far from the shore. The views around are spectacular and so much wildlife to see while you walk, at this time of year you are bound to see baby birds (swans, ducks and the like) hiding in the water reed on their first swimming experience, thousands of little fish, sea gulls and other domestic birds. Its nice to see the boats passing under the embankments. On a nice day, its easy to walk across to Pfäffikon and stop by the Hotel Seedam Plaza for a refreshing drink, an ice-cream or a light salad.
