“Oh the serenity!”
Reviewed May 12, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

The Chapel House in Brassington is one of the best places to pass a weekend or week in The Peak District bar none. This is a truly authentic rural experience - no nearby conurbations, or encroaching suburbs - just fields, villages and some of the best pubs in the country. The Gate public house in Brassington is the real deal - a 17th century hostelry that was built in the year of Shakespeare's death and once served as hospital for a nearby skirmish during the English Civil War. The food there is excellent as is the beer. The Peak Trail is nearby and is a great place to start a cycle ride through the area. It follows the path of a disused railway line and is therefore perfectly flat - a cheat's way of seeing miles of this hilly district without having to negotiate one hill! Highly recommended.

“Great cottage, very clean, shame about the parking.”
Reviewed April 10, 2016 for a stay in March 2016

We loved staying at Chapel House, the owner David gave us very precise instructions which helped a lot when it came to parking our two cars. My husband & I along with our two children shared the cottage with my sister and her partner. There was plenty of room for us all. However my sister and her partner had to park down the hill in the next street outside the church which wasn't ideal. Everything else was fab. The Miners Arms got a big thumbs up from us, food amazing and a very warm welcome. Ye Olde Gate Inn also good, nice enclosed beer garden, we were made to feel very welcome. Outstanding views on your door step. Matlock only a 15 minute drive away to Heights of Abraham.

Management Response
Apr 11, 2016
The parking space will be enlarged in the next few weeks. The idea is not really to park two cars, rather make parking easier for any sized car. However it may be possible to park two small cars side-by-side, but one would be blocked in by the other. Extra and safe parking is just 100 metres away and, if you read through my five years of feedback, this is the first time this issue has received a mention. However I mean no disrespect at all to this reviewer who clearly felt it should be pointed out, and who I thank for taking the trouble to write a review.

“Great place to stay, lovely house and wonderful setting”
Reviewed March 17, 2016 for a stay in March 2016

The house is very inviting and we enjoyed sitting by the fire at the end of a day hiking. Sitting at the kitchen table we had a lovely view outside. Lovely village with nice pub and a walk just across the road. A great place in which to visit the many sites in the Peake District.

Relaxing place to stay. David made it easy to access and our firewood was there as planned.

“Lovely relaxing stay”
Reviewed March 1, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Chapel House has a lot of character is a great place to 'get away from it all'. The views are beautiful and a wonderful scenic footpath for a walk up a hill just outside the front door. The owner was very organised with the booking and the information was very helpful. The local pub was friendly and did a wonderful Sunday roast. A lovely weekend away, thank you.

“Perfection..”
Reviewed February 28, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

We initially decided upon 'chapel house' because of the great reviews and we were right in doing so.
There are great walks in the surrounding countryside from the front door, with Ashbourne and Bakewell within a 15 minute drive.
There are 2 pubs within a 3 minute walk (torches provided) and we visited both (well you're on holiday right??). Both were excellent, the food at the Gate Inn was fantastic.
The cottage itself is beautiful, the bedrooms are a good size and the cottage is well cared for.It is a very sociable and homely cottage which puts you at ease the moment you walk through the door.I already miss the log fire at night (logs can be delivered) and the lazy mornings listening to the range of cds provided.
A big thank you to David for his faultless help and correspondence,we shall return..

“Beautiful quiet cottage on the hillside by a village”
Reviewed January 22, 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We loved this cottage. It is unassumingly yet tastefully furnished, and gives the impression that the owner cherishes this place. It sits on the hill at the edge of a pretty Derbyshire village, with a public footpath leading across a field right in front of the house. Walking from the house as far as you like across fields and down lanes was a great pleasure. Inside it is very well equipped and cosy, with a large wood burner in the main room. The old chapel walls make it feel self contained and private, and the main room is arranged as a split level open plan space, which lends itself well to holidaying with friends or family wanting to spend time together.
