Description: " The Gate Inn " caters for everyone. Being a village pub: local's call in for quick pint along with the pool and darts and boules teams who's friendly banter provides a great family and friendly atmosphere. Our extensive food menu and reasonably priced list of selected beers and wines have found popularity with our regular customers who give us honest feedback to keep us fresh and on our toes. Our new private function room with its own bar and rest room facilities room can cater for up to 100 diners which is great for those family occasions. With two outdoor terraces with great views over the countryside you can relax whist the kids play in secure area playground.

Really enjoyed our food but massively let down by the poor service. Our order was taken relatively quickly and there was no wait on our food but nobody checked if everything was ok with our food whether we needed anything else or if we wanted to order more drinks-basic customer service. We twice had to go to the bar to ask for things. To top it off when the waitress bought our extra drinks we asked if we could have a doggy bag and her response was 'ask the waitress when she clears your table'. At that stage we were clearly finished-was it below this member of staff to clear our plates as with us being one of two tables left eating, she wasn't exactly running to do something else. No attention to those eating at all, more interested in those drinkers at the bar unfortunately.

Recent refurbishment work has created a pleasant modern pub with fairly priced good pub food. The pie of the day (steak and kidney on the day we went) was generously filled with good quality tender meat. The liver and onions could have done with a larger assortment of vegetables but peas were provided on request. Certainly worth a second visit.

We were recommended this restaurant as staying locally for the weekend and what a find! We hadn't booked but were very quickly seated, even though it was busy. The staff were very friendly and chatty, while the service itself faultless. The food was excellent, beautifully cooked and amazing value for fresh local produce, with a great variety of Ales and Larger too. We had such a great time that our Son insisted we return the following night. Two of the best meals and evening I can remember. I had the squid starter as a main, best squid I have ever tasted anywhere in the world. Well done to all the team. My only complaint is that we live 4 hours drive away, so not my local!!!!

having come from Chatsworth (with a dog) we were looking for a place for a snack and drink. The Gate Inn proved perfect. I had cheese and homemade apple chutney baguette and my companion enjoyed ham in ciabatta. Both came with a generous fresh side salad and the portions of bread were generous. The atmosphere and staff were very welcoming - so much that they informed us the dog had set off the alarm on the car!!! The staff suggested we move seats in order that the dog could join us, and in turn provided a huge bowl of water and treats for said dog. This was a super relaxing pub and there is a nice garden at the rear. Definitely would like to return and perhaps sample a dinner menu.

Stopped here for Sunday lunch after a nice walk. I had the vegetarian chilli and my wife had the roast beef. The chilli was more of a vegetable 'mix'. Did not have any discernible heat but was tasty and well made. The beef seemed to be cut by a slicer rather than by hand. It was far too uniform. This was a shame as the meat itself was fine.
Overall, excellent staff, nice interior to the pub but the food needs to step up a level to be excellent.
