“Always delightful - Never disappoints”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

Delightful venue altogether. This is a small restaurant within Scotland Nurseries, Riber, Matlock, in itself worth a visit. I went for lunch on a terribly wet Sunday in January when roads were flooded and visibility was poor. I've visited before on several occasions when it has always been well patronised. Today, however, in view of the weather I'd expected it to be quiet but the place was buzzing with people. There is a pleasingly comprehensive menu with full roast dinner, pie, fish, various other options including vegetarian choices, light meals and desserts/cake. The food was delicious - congratulations to the chef. If you are wanting to visit for a special Sunday celebration, make sure to book in advance or you may not get a table at the time you visit. One point which may be important to some visitors is that there are a few steps down to the counter to place your order. However, tables are located both in the area at the top and at the bottom of the steps.

“Never fails to disappoint”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

We visit the coffee shop (and the nurseries) at least once a month, either popping in for breakfast at the weekend or late lunch during the week. The cooked lunches are home made that day, nicely presented and reasonably priced. There is usually a fish option, a veggie option and roast or meat pie, or maybe a pasta dish. Soup and a sandwich is a good choice too. And the cakes/puddings cannot be ignored. The coffee shop is not very large, but nicely laid out and we enjoy sitting in the conservatory. And in the summer you can sit out in the garden. There is also the Chocolaterie where you can have a hot drink and a chocolate or two.

“Great little restaurant -- get there early”
Reviewed December 14, 2013

Way and beyond the sort of small restaurant you might find at a Garden Centre [although we think this one in its own right is worth a visit]
These people know how to cook and as usual the best advertising is word of mouth and at lunch time mid week the resturant was full
This was a mixed blessing. We had pre booked a table for 1pm
The table was reserved but ordering was tricky as we watched the main and most popular dishes being struck off the menu board..
Guess the wise locals arrived and ordered an hour sooner than we did.
We expressed our disappointment which was matched by very acceptable options.
Still uncertain how my unlisted but fresh steak and kidney came about but it was delicious
The generous portions of fresh veg's were just excellent
A super small restaurant I'd describe as the Best of British

“What a surprise”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Popped in for a sandwich at lunch time. Everything homemade and beautifully fresh I had cheese and leek quiche with salad - very tasty. Husband had steak and onion pie chips and vegetables again good portions. He reported the meat was tender and tasty, pastry very good and the gravy excellent (praise coming from him)

“Home cooked well presented food”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

We have all been to this restaurant before, whether for an afternoon tea or a light lunch. Today was the first time we had a "proper" meal. Firstly the choice was extensive and they went out of their way to provide something that wasn't on the menu for the baby. Everything was freshly prepared and well presented. My salmon was delicious and really interesting and judging by the spotless plates everyone else enjoyed their lunch too.
Would always recommend this place to nyone.
