We went here today on the advice of David from Crich Lane Farm, an excellent local B & B as they dine here regularly. We wanted to see what all the fuss was about and whether the ratings were accurate. Well reviewers, you are spot on. The welcome was warm and the meals we ate were exactly what you would expect after handing over your hard earned money. Seldom these days are we impressed with the quality of the food presented before us in eating houses as we feel we can mostly do better ourselves at home. This is not the case here we are happy to report and we had a very pleasant lunchtime enjoying excellent quality fare that filled our plates. Well done to the staff, you have it sorted!
We were actually sounding this place out as a venue for a 50th celebration later in the year as my wife had already decided to book elsewhere at a 'swisher' venue but on sampling the hospitality here we booked this venue. The quality of the service and food speaks volumes, come try it!

We enjoyed fresh coffee from a cafetiere followed by a cooked meal, on a Monday lunchtime. We chose nicely grilled (large) whole sea bass with tasty, fresh vegetables and very good crunchy, hand-cut chips, followed by delicious lemon meringue cheesecake. The service was very friendly and of a sufficient speed given that the food was freshly prepared and cooked to order. We sat in the small, quiet, attractive French-style dining room. It was very cosy with lots of interesting French artifacts and fresh daffodils on every table. There was pleasant background music mostly of Emile Sande's more mellow songs, including all my favourite ones (by chance). It was our first visit and as it was for a special occasion we were both very glad not to be disappointed.

We have called in this pub before, but not under the present management. From the friendly staff to the amazingly large menu, it looked much more welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and the food was large in quantity, quality and delicious. The bill was very reasonable and we will be returning - soon!
