We stayed for one night in August, after pulling up and finding the reception locked up we were a little concerned. However when we found the correct reception on the other side we were greeted by Simon who was very welcoming and pleasant. The hotel wasn't that busy and we were given a room facing out to the fields and sea beyond. Admitedly, the furniture and decor are dated however, we could not fault the cleanliness of the room and the bedding was fresh and spotless, The bed was huge and very comfortable so we slept well. There were nice toiletries and plenty of tea/coffe and hot chocolate.
Having got to the bar for early doors(about 5.00) we were the first in there and the staff were helpful in letting us try a couple of beers before deciding. Simon also opened up the outside deck area for us as it was a lovely evening. (although it was winter) The bar soon filled up with guests and locals and there was a great atmosphere, also a big log fire. We had a great meal which was good value and we noticed Simon mingling with the guests and ensuring all was well.
Although this is not a five star hotel the attitude of the staff and their efforts to make your stay a pleasant one is five star and cannot be faulted. We found this evening to be one of our favourites of our New Zealand tour. We fully recommend this hotel and it represents excellent value for the price you pay. Thank you to Simon and the staff.

We pulled into a little van park in Haast with our motor home early in July with our 3 young children who were very tired and grumpy after a full day on the road. After discussing with the very helpful receptionist we were directed to the Heartland World Hertiage Hotel for a quick and easy meal. We were met by a lovely lady who was extremely helpful and could not do enough to make our family feel welcome. Our meal arrived very promptly ad was absolutely delicious! My husband had a vension pie and said it was the best pie he had ever eaten. We could not fault the food or the personalised service by the lovely staff member (sorry we did not get her name) We have since recommended their food to others. If ever we travel to NZ again we will definitely be back.

Used their go west deal and had a room for two nights for $129 or something like that. A bit on the run down side. There were only about 3 rooms occupied and for some reason we were put beside people.
Thankfullly we had a double bed and a twin as two people in the double would've made it look like an old swayback mare.
If you are on the west side of the building - when the winds pickup (and they do) - it makes a lovely whoooo hooo noise outside that is quite loud.
The staff were all very nice - would skip the breakfast if you had any where else to eat as it's overpriced for quality.
Dinner was pretty good.

Dear MapleKiwi

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your experience. I have relayed your comments in regards to the staff and dinner to the team. They were very pleased.
The Hotel was built in the 1960's and it has that rustic look to it, however over the years we have tried our best to catch up with maintenance and refurbishments, this is an ongoing process and we are also investing more in the near future to upgrade our rooms.
The whistling sound as you mentioned has been rectified. It was building paper hanging over the guttering after a new roof was installed, maintenance have cut it back. Thank you for reporting this.
I am sorry that the breakfast was not to your standards, I am not sure if you were given our new a la carte breakfast menu which has been well received.
Thank you again for your comments and we hope to be of service in the future.

Kind regards

Simon Jackson

We stayed one night, dinner, bed and breakfast. Although not new and a little dated the room was fine - very clean and comfortable. The dinner and the continental breakfast were great and all staff dealt with were delightful and very helpful. The bar/dining room is very homely with an immense log fire burning. We enjoyed and others we spoke to agreed. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Don't forget to try a meal of whitebait

Stayed here for one night before crossing the Haast pass during Easter weekend. You won't have much choice anyway if you want to stay in tiny Haast, but this was just OK, reasonable value for money and clean & comfortable enough. Quite thin walls between the motel style ground floor rooms. Handy to have the sliding doors opening straight onto our car parking space. Reasonable enough space in a triple for us, a fmily with a 3 year old and a baby.

At first sight, it didn't look very appealing but we enjoyed our stay through a thundery night. There was a wine tasting and the chance to socialise in a friendly environment. Has lots of atmosphere and the rooms were clean and adequate for us.
We travelled a few miles up the coast to Knights Point as the sun was setting and we can recommend that to everyone before dinner.
