When we stumbled upon this place on TripAdvisor, we didn't expect too much. But when we arrived, we were very surprised about the warmth and comfortness of this mountain resort. The rooms are very big and resemble a small apartment. The standard isn't state of the art - but they have their own charm. We enjoyed a big buffet for dinner, with a great selection of very delicious local cuisine.

The landscape which presented itself to us the next morning is just astonishing and worth every minute it takes, to reach the place. A huge lake embedded in a picturesque surrounding of hills and forests. Probably perfect for hiking - although we unfortunately didn't have the time to try that out.

We stayed in Sindristua! It was cool! Lots of entertainment and super slop to learn skiing! A bit expensive everything in Norway, but the stay was good! In spa Swidish lady is very good, water in pool is very clear. No chlor smell at all.

Arrived at midnight. Minus 2 degrees C. Long drive, tired, irritable and ready for a meal and bed. Site totally and I mean totally black. No street lights. No building names lit. No signposts lit. No torch with me and none provided. Back to reception twice to ask for help in finding my self catering flat in the grounds of the hotel. Explanation of whereabouts of the flat was extremely poor because the reception was manned by a smart mouthed girl who refused to help me find it, and quite frankly couldnt of cared less whether I found it or not. No Porters. No people to escort me to help find it. No room service people to help. No food available. I was told my car lights should provide all the illumination required to see. Last time I checked my car lights didnt point upwards 45 degrees to see street signs. Spent an hour looking for the flat! and I even found a young lady with a small girl looking for her accommodation too. Ready to really have a go at the Management when by a flook I came across the flat. Then gues what. No bed made up with fresh linen. Too tired to care by now. Next morning? A cold breakfast buffet. The hot food would not have passed any kind of food safety check. Did they care? No. No apologies forthcoming although in their defence they refunded me a small percentage of the bill. Do yourselves a favour dont stay there, especially at 250 pounds a night. They have no concept of customer relations, they are complacent, inefficient and non co-operative. Customers they just dont care about. Go visit Tynset instead and stay in a camp site Hyutt. Worse Hotel I have ever stayed at and believe me I have stayed at a few.

Room Tip: Insist on staying in the Hotel itself if you have to go. The grounds are a nightmare to find your wa...

Ordered room on our way to Oslo in July, nok 990 for doubbel room + extra bed for one child. Good bed and clean air all night. Had a great time in the pool with hot tubs next morning. Breakfast buffet was also pleasing and no need to use time deciding where to sit, your nametag is on your table. Loved relaxed area outside and in reception area. Some trouble with lights and electricity, but who cares when the young hard working swedish receptionsist lookes like a model..

It is hard to find nice places to stay outside the big cities in Norway. The only nice hotels are resort/conference hotels, but few of them are along the main arteries. Savalen is a strange and mythical names for Norwegians – 30-60 years ago it was the high-altitude ice-skating track in Norway where several world-records was set (I believe). Now it is mainly a very well “resort” hotel with a great reputation for running all kinds of week-end specials from late august through Easter – so summer is a low-season (I think?).

Therefor we got a four person suite/apartment for just somewhere around 125 EUR incl. breakfast, which is a bargain in Norway. Breakfast was of good – not fantastic - Norwegian standards.

We arrived late on a Friday night and were very pleasantly surprised to see that the swimming-pool and spa was open until 11pm. Both the water and the view was a treat for four travel tired people.

If you are travelling north or south it is definitely worth selecting this as an over-night place, despite it being 15 km away from the main road. The 15 km is along a scenic road up into the mountain.

The Norwegian version of "Restaurant from Hell" is nicely located in the beautiful mountains of Savalen. The Chef does obviously not care so why should we... Stay safe and stay away...

Like many others here, we went on a four-day trip with Activities Abroad just before Christmas. Similarly, I'd booked because of other very positive reviews. We wanted to take the children to see Father Christmas, but also have a few days of other wintery activities (and a lot of snow).

We really can't rate this trip highly enough. Activities Abroad were fantastic, both here in the UK and on site. The hotel itself is very cosy (especially the reception area) and relaxed - perfect for families, and the pool and spa area is beautiful: swimming in warm water while looking out on the snowy mountains was very special. The buffet meals were very good quality, and always had plenty for adults and children alike.

As for the activities themselves... they were perfect. Meeting Father Christmas in his lovely wooden house was a real highlight for the children (and we spent about 15 minutes with him on our own as a family), but the other activities almost eclipsed this for them.. sledging, snowmobiling, husky sledding over the frozen lake, star-lit horse-drawn sleigh rides... As our elder daughter (who is 7) said, 'I'm in a horse-drawn sleigh going past Father Christmas' House at night... I must be dreaming.'

So, all in all we really can't fault it. The area is stunningly beautiful, we had so much fun and we all have some perfect memories.
