“Very gay friendly, cheap and ncie!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2012

Me and my partner arrived from Milan in the late afternoon and were promptly upgraded by the gayfriendly (gay?)receptionist! We went to the garden and ordered a dry Martini. What we got was some alcoholic beverage, but no dry Martini. But that didn't mater, cause the view was excellent and the waiter cute. Now the room was so nice and the view from the room breathtaking. We booked it via some website on the net and paid less then 300 CHF for a double room including breakfast. For dinner we went to a genuine ticinese grotto just 4mins walking distance away and we got the royal gourmand treatment. The other day we had a splendid breakfast and even prepared our lunch(sandwiches) at the breakfast table and were offered the latest newspapers to take away! The whole decoration was so beautiful with lots of white and silverish pieces and a very feminine athmosphere. Also the spa we enjoyed to the fullest. We could really explore the premises and ourselves as not many other guests were present.

All the boxes get ticked here: grand but quiet, lakeside location (Lago Maggiore) with views back, front and sideways over the Alps, a manicured garden down to a private beach, a super Spa (with indoor/outdoor swimming even on the coldest nights plus many other attractions/novelties - try the XXXL jacuzzi and the extensive wellness treatments), oustandingly friendly and efficient, multi-lingual staff plus a choice of excellent lakeside dining. And all this in Ascona, the south facing almost too-good-to-be-true Ticino resort, where Italian charm and colour meets and marries Swiss orderliness and efficiency. A place to return to time and again - and we do! Viator Coloniae

...but has become part of its neighbouring Eden Roc Hotels in 2010... it embodies the more sports-oriented, informal side of the 5-star hotel whilst offering all the amenities in terms of fine dining and top-class spa enjoyment at the new Eden Roc Spa. The 16 rooms were completely refurbished and give access to an extensive garden terrace and seperate pool right by the lake. Guests are welcome to use all the services and facilities of the Hotel Eden Roc.

I am a renowned "spoiled for luxury" guest and this hotel has really set a new standard for me!!! It is PERFECT. If hoteliers should want to know how hotels are managed this is the SCHOOL of hotel management!! The consierge must have the gift of telepathy, they were always one step ahead of our needs and wishes!!! Upon arrival, we were upgraded to an enormous lake view suite (I believe because it was my birthday the next day).It was bigger than our first appartment. The view of the lake itself is relaxing and refreshing. It was so beautifull in the winter so can I imagine how spectacular it must be in the summer!!!
Flat screen tv in the living room and the bedroom, nespresso mashine (a must for me), big desk, wireless, enormous bathroom with both shower and bathtub, 2 sinks, every bathroom amenity possible, endless towels, bathrobes, slippers, special Spa slippers, extra clean, huge bed and I can go on forever.
Breakfast room and staff impecable!!!! There are no words for the service and kindness of staff at Eden Roc. Swimming pools, fitness center, saunas, hammams, sooooooo gooooooddd!!!!!! There were invisible people everywere to help you!!! As for the Spa, I love treatments of any kind but so far this was the best I have ever had. I could see myself there for weeks of pampering!!! It wasn't cheap but worth the candle!
On my birthday we found a little jar of homemade marmelade in our room with a hand-writen Birthday card for me, it was so lovely. The consierge was amazing, they booked the best restaurants for us and had our car ready to leave before we went down to the lobby. On the morning of our departure, we had a wake up call at 5.30 , they had already asked if we would like coffee with our wake-up call and what kind of coffee, if we would like a breakfast tray in the room or a lunch-pack for later. We wanted just the coffee but nevertheless they had already put a little bag with water and chocolates inside the warmed-up car!!!!
I could go on and on with the praises but just trust me and go for it!!!!

Arrived and we greated friendly. As we arrived before guaranteed check in time we wanted to take a walk, but instead we were offered coffee on the terrace and it took them only 10 minutes to get the room ready. Beautiful suite with seperate living room, all held in orange and pink. The do have rooms of different styles, very individual, so have a look before you reserve it. We liked it a lot though, not like a 1-800 hotel room. Large balcony, cut melon and fresh berries along with a small bottle of processo at check in. Breakfast quality was good, everything fresh. The outside pool provide stunning views overlooking the lake and mountains. The place to be in Ascona.

On our way to our summer holiday in Toscany we planned to visit Ascona and we booked in advance a room in the famous Eden Roc. What a mistake! For CHF 720 they gave us a small little room in the first floor, facing the roof of the kitchen. Our room looked a bit outdated in style and the bathroom was tiny. As it was raining all night long, the hotel was 1/3 empty and we did not understand why they gave us this dungeon. When we asked this question the next morning, the girl at the desk replied that maybe for our next stay she could arrange a better room. But helas: There is no next time for us in Eden Roc. It was far to expensive.for what we got.

With this being my 6th trip to the Eden Roc, I knew what to expect, utter luxury. There is not even 1 thing i could complain about ( apart from there being a jazz festival on at the same time and 20 CHF to enter town after 6.30p.m!). The rooms are exquisite, with beautiful linen and wonderful balconies. The food is just a dream, with one being able to ask for anything without it necessarily being on the menu. The 2 pools are great, and also the hydra-pool being lovely.. The view is serene and one feels like one could not possibly be in Europe, more some remote pacific island! I cannot put it into words how amazing this hotel is. Just go and you will very soon find out! hope you all have as much fun as I did!
