“Defiantly NOT 4 star!”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

We made a last minute trip to ascona with our 2 small children (3 and 14 months) When we arrived we went to the tourist info. The friendly lady there called around for us to see what was available even though they were closing and she had to stay a bit late. She gave us a few options and we ended up booking this hotel based on local and the fact that they had a heated pool. And it was 4 star. It was getting late and we needed a place quick! But we should have looked at TA first!
This hotel is OLD. And yes like other reviews it is more like 2 maybe 3 stars. Who gives out stars anyway??? When we first walked in our instinct was to turn around and walk out again. But with 2 hungry tired kids we decided to stay.
Room was dated. Bed was 2 singles pushed together. The electrical outlets where in full reach of children and over loaded. Windows where dirty and floor had big stains but the rest seemed ok.
Beds are very very "firm". No WIFI in room. We had a corner room at the front of the hotel. Nice view! But patio furniture is about as cheap as it gets. The room was quiet, even though the hotel was fully booked I didn't hear other guest. But you can hear loud cars/motos on street. Due to old windows.
All of this would be ok for me if the price was good. But it was 310 Swiss francs ( about 250 euros)!
Breakfast is simple Swiss style but good. The 3 best things about this hotel … location, front desk people are very friendly and the sun loungers in the cute garden.

Although it has been almost a year, when I stayed there I was told they would shut down for urgently needed renovations, when I now saw they are still open, I felt compelled to write a reviewn. The rooms are more than just dated. Old dirty carpet, linoleom floor in the old bathroom. No aircondition. The staff is very friendly though. Breakfast was as I recall so so. Left early and would not stay again.

Although the hotel wasn't brand new, it was very well kept.
Courtesy and service where the keywords of our stay (4 days in Ticino and then Italy)
5 minutes wal from the old town and the lake promenade
Nice heated indoor swimming pool
Delicious Breakfast, not too many things, but good
The Dinner was excellent (we had dinner only twice, because of the many restaurants in the area)

Room Tip: the Superior Room was even too big for us

The staff were all very polite and tried to be helpful although lack of communication skills were a problem. We got a parking ticket for parking where the hotel staff had recommended.

The room - dirty! Stains on the carpet, furniture and the bedding. Our room had a so-so internet connection. I was very concerned about the electrical tape that covered wiring in the room. And the only air conditioner was a ceiling fan. I will not return to this hotel.

The hotel has a very old feel, with furniture dating back to the 1960s. Our room was very dirty. Only on check-out were we told the price given to us the day before was excluding the parking, which was an additional 18 francs. We had specifically asked, as we had the option of a free parking, just a 5 minute walk. The explanation of the staff was that the girl who gave us this info was just an apprentice. The cost of the hotel was way too high, €160, excluding breakfast!! Even though it was the weekend of the Ascona jazz festival, this is unreasonable, as the hotel is on a main road and not on the lake, and more like a 1 or 2 star hotel, looking at the dated furniture and filthy overall look!!

Nice hotel, good location, 7 min walk to shops, garaging for guest's cars, I had a lovely room, air-con. Great breakfast. Friendly staff. Good hotel for kids. Indoor pool. Reasonable rates. (This is my father's review).
