A great place to hike and enjoy the beauty of Switzerland. The changing colours of the lake as it relects the surroundings is majestic

Easy walk from town to the gondola station. Quick ride up and relaxed walk down to the lake. There's a restaurant there also if you want to warm with a cup of coffee and wait for the clouds to shift. The weather changes quickly - after a short wait the sun broke through and got the most magnificent pictures before the fog and clouds rolled back in. Wonderful spot. Save some energy and allow a little more time for the walk back out as it's mostly uphill.

We stopped here overnight on our hiking trek along the Via Alpina trail that crosses the Swiss Alps. You can get here by walking up from Kandersteg (fairly easy), or you can also take a gondola and then stroll about a mile on a mostly-level path with lots of day hikers. Either way, the lake is worth a trip. It gets fairly crowded (with hikers, picknickers and anglers) on a warm summer day, but by late afternoon the crowds leave and just a few stay to have dinner or stay overnight at the two hotels on the lake. Views here are out of this world, both of the lake and the surrounding mountains. For hikers passing through heading East on the Via Alpina, the lake is a good stop before tackling the steep climb over Hohtürli pass. But even if you just make a day trip up from Kandersteg, the lake is an excellent destination.

Catch the cable cable car and then it is an easy walk to view the lake. You can walk further to obtain better views
