We knew Kandersteg from the trainstation to Goppenstein, on the way to our yearly winter-ski-holidays. So what does Kandersteg has more to give than just a trainstation...

We spent the very last weekend of April 2013 in "The Hayloft", recommended by friends of us, expads from Holland, living in Baselbiet.

The wheather "could be better"...
BUT, the extraordinary, very nice receipt of Kerry, and Peter later on, was great!

Saturdayevening, joining with these two people was "never to forget". Same as the departure on the mondaymoning. Homesick already before Thun...

Apart from all of this, is the very cosy and very tastefull interior of this B&B! A truly "must have been" in Switzerland.

Tornero!

Me and my wife Kathy really enjoyed staying here.. Kerry and Peter were wonderful hosts, and lovely friendly people. We really enjoyed sitting with them, and there young son, and chatting over breakfast.

Peter was also very helpful giving us a lift both to and from the railway station, which we really appreciated.

The location is stunning, with rolling green meadows, cows with bells in the fields, snow capped peaks, and a quaint little village with some cosy restaurants. Kandersteg is a much less touristy part of Switzerland, which was a nice change from the more popular locations we've been to before.

Was very sad on leaving, as we felt like we had made new friends after only 2 days.

We very much enjoyed our stay in the Hayloft family room! It is a beautiful house, but also very comfortable and convenient. We have 2 children (4 and 6 years old) and we all had a great time. Our children really enjoyed the garden (especially playing with dog Anchor). The kids have their own section of the room, upstairs. Very exciting for them and comfortable for the parents.
The atmosphere in the house is really great and Peter and Kerry are exceptional hosts making you feel at home immediately. It is really special that they travelled all around the world but they can also tell you about any corner in the Kandersteg valley.
We really enjoyed the breakfast at the round table with the other guests, a great mix of families and mountaineers. Also nice that you can join the table for a drink in the evening if you feel like.
We will definitely will come back, our kids are already asking us when it will be!

If you are interested in a characteristic Swiss superb hiking trip, then you have to choice the cosy Hayloft accommodation in the middle of green untouched fields. From the Loft you can directly go straight forward to the top of the amazing mountains outskirt.

Thx Kerry, Peter, James + Snorkel and Anchor (four legged friends)

We live in Switzerland and have experience of various types of accommodation. Without the help of an Alastair Sawday guide, it is not always easy to find THE right b&b that ticks all the boxes...The Hayloft does! It is a picture postcard chalet, truly cosy, very comfortable (you'll never feel cold or damp in the winter...even though we went at Easter, we arrived in a snow blizzard), but most special is the extraordinary warmth and welcome from Kerry and Peter who have a natural gift for making you feel part of their household. A special mention and thank you to son James, and the Appenzeller cattle dog "Anchor" who guided us through snow on a 3 hour-trek to/back from Schwarenbach.
When you find a gem, you don't necessarily want everyone to know about it, but it would be unfair to Peter and Kerry's combined sense of low-key but super efficient organisation, tremendous humour and real sense of hospitality. We have already booked for the Summer. Un endroit unique et des hotes extraordinaires! Bravo!
