“Go only for the thermal baths”
Reviewed May 20, 2014

Big hotel

Pros:

- The in-house thermals baths are awesome. Big indoor and outdoor pools. Although the temperature could have been warmer (for instance at Lindner the pools are much warmer). The pools are the main or even only reason to visit this hotel.
- Rooms were spacious with a big balcony with mountain views.
- Wi-Fi was free and worked pretty well.
- After having breakfast here the first morning we expected the dinner to be equally as terrible. But dinner was actually pretty good although not great by any means.

Cons:

- Breakfast is terrible. We've had better breakfasts in two star hotels. 25 Euro on top of it all. Very disappointing.
- Hotel is built on many different levels. Tiny elevators. Very difficult to bring a push chair up to the reception level and even more difficult up to the hotel room.
- Staff is semi-rude and uninterested.
- Location, although not too far from the ski lift, is still a good 5-10 min walk in ski boots. And no bus to the ski lifs is offered like some of the other hotels in the area.

The baths here are fabulous. They allowed children which made it wonderfully easy to enjoy the thermal baths.

The hotel is in a great location, within easy walking distance from the town.

The restaurant made good quality food and had great service. But otherwise the hotel service was somewhat lacking. It look forever to get bar service and it was nigh on impossible to pay the bill. Checking out was a trial (I think we got a trainee as she had a person watching over her shoulder, but not really smoothing things through), they tried to charge us for breakfast even though the baby was 7 months old and still breastfed. It took two requests to have it removed.

The decor is dated, but clean and in good condition.

Oh and getting around the hotel with a pram is not very easy, we have a Bugaboo Chameleon and most of the lifts only just fit it in.

Room Tip: The views over the mountains are excellent.

The Hotel Bristol is a good 4 star hotel. Breakfast could be a bit richer but there is something for everybody I guess. The rooms are large enough, we, two adults two kids found the rooms good.

The Thermal bath is very good as well the massage we could have as we booked a package.

Only downside so to speak is dinner where the choice is limited. This is no issue as there are several options nearby.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in January 2014. Will try to balance the review to give you the best idea of what it is like.

The best:
- great thermal bath section. This is one of the better I´ve seen in Europe. 35 degrees celcius water, relaxation area, outdoor jacuzzi etc. Worth the stay in itself.
- next to the Torrent ski area. If you´re not visiting Leukerbad for thermal baths alone, skiing should be the preferred activity. Skiing is fair, although not as good as other Alpine destinations. Nevertheless, the Mercure Bristol is a great location for quick access to the slopes.

The rest:
- average breakfast
- average rooms
- average standard

The hotel is in it self - apart from the before mentioned thermal bath - not a destination in it self. However, well sufficient for all coming to Leukerbad for skiing, walking or thermal relaxation.

In short you will not make a mistake if you book a room here. Staff is also great, which helps the overall impression and score.

My wife and myself spent 4 nights, including New Year evening, from 31.12.2013 until 04.01.2014. We were lucky enough to get a Deluxe double room, unfortunately only North side rooms were available, but our room number 411, was the best one we could get. Last floor, in the pool corner, so we had view every day on the pool and north side. This room had no balcony. Only remark, concerns the possible loud speaking people who are taking their early morning bath from 08:00 am, you can easily hear them if speaking in the pool, it can wake you up...
We enjoy to come to this hotel, because it has a good location, great view on the mountains around, is very close to Torrent Bahnen telecabin. The most important point is that this hotel has its own thermal bath ! It is not too much people, even if hotel was full, as you can swim indoor, outdoor, go to sauna or to turkish bath, so people are moving around those 4 places and not disturbing too much, if you are looking for quiet. It is absolutely opposite if you want to go to the main public bath of Leukerbad, there we saw how overcrowded, full and noisy it was, not for us...
From this hotel, you can either use their hot pool, go to the mountain via Torrent Bahnen telecabin, go to the mountain via Gemmi telecabin (which is the best place to visit !!!), skate inside the covered skating rink, make ski (but it is not the best location for that, unless you are with young kids...), it's a lot of restaurants and hotels around, so you can visit and change every evening your dinner location. Service was ok, but staff where getting really tired, after 2 long weeks of hard work, due to hotel being full. So, service could be somehow delayed due to the high number of clients.

So, to resume, let's say that :

Positive points :
-------------------

1) Own thermal bath belonging to the hotel, where only clients of the hotel can access.
2) Parking very close to the hotel (CHF. 8.-- per day if not covered and CHF. 15.-- per day if covered).
3) Great view if you have a room with balcony on south side and high floor (4th) !
4) Good location of the hotel.
5) Nice and relaxing atmosphere inside the hotel.
6) Very clean, excellent pool, restaurant, room, all was in very good conditions.
7) Free WIFI.

Points to be improved :
-----------------------------

1) If your room is located on the corner next to pool side, expect noisy people speaking loudly from 08:00 am being inside the outdoor pool...
2) Food generally speaking, was not the best that we we could find inside a good 4 stars hotel, it was not very tasty, very few quantity when being served during dinner, few choices available for breakfast and slowly/hardly refurbished (specially for scrambled eggs and/or cheese). We had only one time salmon, but never bacon, never omelett, never hot potatoes or cooked tomato and sausages were sometimes not cooked enough, well this point of food must be improved by Management !!!
3) Coffee machine for breakfast, often one of them (only 2 available) is breaking down and people have to queue with the only remaining one...
4) Food on New Year's evening was not the best we could expect, maybe to ask for higher price and to improve quality/quantity of what is proposed ?

Well, that's all for this time. We will definitively come back to this hotel, as we really like the atmosphere and the relaxing times we are spending there. Staff are nice and friendly, but seems to work a lot...

I will soon add some photos to this review, so enjoy life and maybe see you there one day ;-).

Room Tip: Ask for Deluxe room, south side, highest possible floor and close to the pool for better view.

Staying here for the New Year celebrations, as a couple. The location is great-hotel is very close to the centre of Leukerbad , where you can find many bars, restaurants and Migros supermarket. Me and my husband liked the mountain view ( mountains come very close to the balcony), the hotel`s own Thermal bath (inside and outside) , where you can walk in your bathrobe , and the helpful staff at the hotel. We needed to see a doctor during our stay and the staff were very helpful. One afternoon we felt like having something to eat and the restaurant staff arranged a meal for us. The only thing that has let the stay down is a New Year Eve`s dinner, which started at 7:45pm and was dragging on and on all night ( the 1st course arrived at 9pm!) . Who wants a Beef Wellington at 11:30pm? Usually the dinner lasts for 2 hours, then a disco, but in this case we gave up before the desert. The room is good, sun was shining on the balcony in the afternoon in mid-winter, which was very pleasant. Free Wi-Fi. No safe in the room which is unusual. Breakfast buffet is OK.

Room is big with nice views of the mountains.
However, almost no previlages entitled for Plantinum member except welcome drinks......
