If we visit the Lucerne area again we will definitely consider this hotel, this is because
1. It provides free parking
2. the lake view from the lakeview room is great, however you need to pay extra
3. the buffet breakfast is very good quality, very friendly staff.
4. morning coffee is served in room.
5. room size is quite large.

however there is no free WIFI.

Room Tip: pay a little more for the lake view room, it is worth it.

We picked this place because of its free parking and lake view, and it is only about 10 mins drive to Luzern centre. We like this place a lot and if we visit this area again we will definitely stay there again. Morning coffee is served in room, and the buffet breakfast at the restaurant is impressive too ! the room size is above average.

IMO it is definitely worth it to pay more for the lake view room.

this place is best accessed with a car.

This is the second time that the Gault Millau restaurant guide has led us to the Seehotel Kastanienbaum. And expectations are indeed high as one approaches the hotel - a superb lakeside location in one of Luzern's poshest (and quietest) residential areas. And the hotel ticks most of the boxes: unfussy booking; friendly welcome; clean, comfortable, well equipped rooms with 'all mod cons;' an (outdoor) swimming pool; wellness area (massages, facials & Co) and a restaurant with an extensive lakeside terrace. A property like this should be teeming with life and probably people with expensive automobiles. Instead, it seems to have found its niche primarily as a business hotel catering for training seminars.
Despite recent renovations, the hotel gives the impression of being stuck in an 80's time warp and the prospect created by Gault Millau of a gourmet evening was left unfulfilled (for the second time, incidentally) as we settled down instead to a 'gut bürgerliches' (homely) menu. According to the management, a more adventurous cuisine is only bookable for special events, business and/or other groups. This is a pity as here as elsewhere the hotel and its formidable site have so much greater potential. Viator Coloniae

Situated on the lakeside of Lucerne, in a very quiet environment, the staff was kind , the breakfast was good, there's a free parking. The view of the lake is great especially in the morning while having the breakfast on the terrace .

This honestly has the best view of Lake Luzern by far. However there is no air conditioning and aver thing is an Homage to the 1980's. The food in the restaurant is alright but not worth the price so we went into town. There is a pool and a mini beach, just imagine something pathetic out of the 1960's and you have got it.

Beautiful location right on the shore of the lake - wonderful view from our balcony. Quite isolated, which is fine if you are travelling by car. Very large and comfortable room. Small but adequate bathroom though the towels could be bigger! Large and comfortable bed - we loved the pillows, which is very unusual in a hotel. Very good breakfast and dinner - dining on the terrace was a pleasure. Service and food both excellent. But this hotel will never be better than very good until they install air conditioning, which was very badly needed in July. We had to leave our windows open overnight (no noise issues) to be able to breathe but we suffered by way of mosquito bites the next day!

Room Tip: Well worth paying extra for a lake view

Big, clean and nice room and bathroom.
The city center is nearby, and you can go by public transport if you want or by your own car.
The breakfast (buffet) is good.Enough variety.
Staff is very friendly, although I was a little bit disappointed in the fact that staff (receptionist) did not react on leaving guests who were shouting and laughing in front of the enterance at 6am in the morning on sunday.
The swimming pool and "beach" at the lake are rather small. But enought for a suick refreshment.
We would recommend this hotel for a few days (visit the city) or as a one night hotel in your travelling to for example Italy.
