we were skiing in Villars and decided to go for a good lunch, it was a little climb , but worthwile. the lunch consisted of the salade forestiere, which was so much and tasteful, that we hardly managed the main course (one portion for two persons). the service was very friendly and fast.
we will certainly go another time.

This used to be one of our favourite restaurants but visited last week and were disappointed. The atmosphere was dull and staff miserable. Also we were over charged and owner seemed quite aware of his mistake. Found out later that another table, also English, were over charged too.
The food was not as good as previous visits.

This is a little tucked away restaurant by the lake. Attached to the lake is the legend of beautiful Isabeau, who, fleeing an invading army, tossed her chest of jewels into its depths. You can walk from Villars, or from the Menhir of Tomeley, or any number of routes.

The food is good. The service is slow. There are decent vegetarian options mostly of the cheesey variety. My non-veg husband enjoyed the venison. Nice ambiance, the sort of place where you talk to your neighbot.

I had eaten twice outside in the summer and it was really great, but this time it was such a disappointment. We had booked and arrived around 1230. There were very few people in the restaurant. However more arrived quickly after us. We waited more than an hour for our main course (only having a green salad for starter). However, that was not the biggest problem - the chasse was only luke warm and I don't think the spatzlis had even seen the pan - almost stone cold. The croute aux champignons was slightly warmer and flavour was good. They accepted too many diners for the number of staff working on that day.

It will be some considerable time before we return.

Take the local train to Brettaye and simply follow the very easy directions to this little restaurant. You basically stay on the main stretch of road until you get there. We met a lovely local lady and her sheep dog along the way and got quite a bit of info about the area from her as she joined us on our walk. The 20 minute walk to the restaurant passes by quickly as the scenery is breath-taking. Take at least a morning or an afternoon for this outing- we went for a stroll around the small lake before sitting down and took a number of the detours after to see more of the countryside. It's probably best to make a reservation, or alternatively, as we did, stop by the restaurant when you arrive, make a booking for later and then go for a walk first. The service was good- but we only had drinks there, as breakfast was a mere hour and a half before, so I cannot comment on the quality of the food. This is a family friendly spot and they even have a few old sun chairs to lounge in overlooking the lake. Next time we go there, we will take one of the routes that leads all the way back to Villars, instead of taking the train back.
