Fer a Cheval is a noted apres ski bar close to the the Medran lift. Downstairs from the bar is a cosy, rustic restaurant, with excellent service, but sadly very average, and pricey, food and wine.
The butterfly prawns with ravioli was pleasant, but not outstanding, the lasagne was described as a little above average, and the "burger meister" in our party described the cheesburger as the 3rd best of the three he had eaten during the week, with the other two having been in mountain restaurants! Desserts followed, and again, "average" was the concensus.
Fer a Cheval is a good example of what reputation can achieve for a restaurant, even in the absence of quality. Our meal the previous day in the as yet unreviewed (on Tripadvisor) ,Relais de Neige, only a few doors away, was far superior and cheaper.
