What a fantastic place to fly with Verbier-Summits, excellent guiding, incredible scenery and some of the best flying I have had with the backdrop of the Alps, a really nice safe landing field with retrieve vans there well before landing ready to take us back to Take Off until dusk.
The Verbier-Summits team are great, friendly and helpful, after flying for a number of years now, I feel like I learnt a lot during the week with the help of our guide and the flying conditions, I would recommend anybody to try flying here.
Compared to some other places, yes it is a little expensive (food and drink in Switzerland that is), but in my opinion it is worth every penny for the flying and excellent service you get when flying with these guys, big thanks to Mike, Stu and Andres, see you soon
See you soon Steve :-) Thanks!
We enjoyed exemplary service from all the folk at Verbier Summits. In particularly, we enjoyed a very warm welcome. The apartment we had was perfect for our needs. And the range of shops and local restaurants gave plenty of choice for sustenance.
:-) see you all soon I hope
I travelled to Verbier Summits with 2 friends, we are all paragliding pilots with varying years of experience, mine being the least at 8 years. We arrived at 9:45 pm after a long drive from England and were allocated our apartment without delay. The van to take off was always on time, was new, and was always spotlessly clean, which is unusual in my experience of paragliding transport. Whenever I landed there was always a van already at the landing field waiting to take our group up to the top again, superb service! Our in air guide, Andres, gave us all some great advice on our flying and I really improved my thermalling technique. We had some bad weather on a couple of days and Stu and Mike organised a special deal for us to stay a couple of extra nights which was really appreciated. The flying was the best I and my friends have ever experienced. The scenery is just so spectacular, cows and sheep with their bells ringing, water cascading down the mountainside, chocolate box views and snow capped mountains. It's true to say Verbier Summits has raised the bar for me and my friends about what to expect from a paragliding holiday. Definitely First Class!
Thanks Terry!
Can't wait to have you guys back :-)
I have visited Verbier Summits twice for a week of fly-guiding. The service provided by Mike and Stu is exemplary. They boosted my confidence and made sure that each day was as good as it could be. The accomodation provided is lovely; little barns converted into delightful apartments. The setup for flying is great; there are several takeoffs accessible by car but the main takeoff at Les Ruinettes is right next to the cable car. This means that for beginners doing top-to-bottom flights or for when the weather isn't quite thermic enough for cross country flying, it's easy to make many flights in a day. The valley is beautiful and you can do some lovely XC flights returning to the big open main landing field. I have flown in many places around the world, and Verbier Summits is the place I will keep coming back to.
I have been visiting Verbier for 15 years, 2-3 times a year, and just recently tried parapet. Its now on the must do list every year. Its exhilarating, exciting safe and so much fun. The bothers Stu & Mike are great guys, and take care of us so well.
Ah, thanks Tom! Always great to have you guys! :-)
For a perfect paragliding and learning retreat, Verbier Summits couldn't be beat. I came in as a beginner for the EP+CP course in early September and walked away with a license 2 weeks later.
1. **The People**: The most memorable vacations involve wonderful people - and Mike, Stu, Emi and crew are the best teachers and company you could ask for. Extremely clear about all aspects of flying; confidence inspiring, encouraging and genuinely complimentary; safe, professional and judicious about conditions/ gear/pre flight checks (Guy more than once caught my mistakes before takeoff); easy to coordinate with at all stages of booking; and truly warm, fun, interesting people who greet you with a smile at every opportunity.
2. **Location and Infrastructure**: With Verbier Summits you get - a gorgeous and picturesque valley in the alps; consistent, stable winds permitting 2-4 flights a day; gondola rides right up to the launch site while meeting likeminded locals and course mates; takeoff from high elevation (2200m), where a 1300m descent permits long flights for beginners (20-40 minutes), options for ridge soaring, and different clouds and hews every day; an easy to recognize and spacious landing field dedicated to Verbier Summits; and all transportation taken care of by Verbier Summits (to/from training hill, between landing and gondola, etc). Accommodations, breakfast and classroom are essentially next door to the gondola and amenities (grocery, bank, bar, stores), and the team's chalet apartments (La Ruinette) are charming, arty, and comfortable with perfect kitchens for cooking. They were so popular that the second week we had to stay in an airbnb. The serene walk up a hill overlooking the valley every day while saying bonjour to the neighbors really airs out your heart. There's also hiking and tango lessons (taught by one of the paragliding instructors, Emi) to keep you engaged in the evenings, among other options like biking and via ferrata. If you do the 2 week course moreover, the compactness of Switzerland supports a weekend jaunt across the country for yet another adventure.
3. **Structure**: The rhythm of the course over 10-11 days made for a super relaxing vacation while staying mentally and physically engaging everyday and letting you absorb the peace of a pastoral village. Throughout the course, you engage with about 5 instructors (including Mike and Stu) who cover ground handling, takeoff, landing, and meteorology/aerodynamics theory. They follow the British and Swiss curriculums, and supplement with best practice experience. Everything the team does supports you flying solo from your very first official flight (around day 2 or 3). The theory was fascinating and clear. Ground handling teaches you takeoff and landing close to the ground. Multiple run throughs of what to expect and do in flight let you trust yourself and be self reliant. Calm radio contact at all stages of flight (takeoff, exercises on contingent scenarios, landing) continue to build confidence. Debriefs post landing reinforce good habits and quickly correct areas for improvement.
In short, I couldn't be more pleased with the experience nor could I recommend Verbier Summits enough. 10 out of 10!
