I think that Hotel is a good choice if you have to spend a lot of day-time at EPFL. The room are confortable but not too large. The staff is very nice. Breakfast are good but, probably, a little bit poor!

Stayed for four nights whilst in the area for a family baptism and despite what I say below, I rather quite liked this clean, comfortable, bright and very modern hotel.

We liked the comfortable bed (two singles pushed together) but not the individual single duvets. We liked the good bathroom and shower even though it leaked a bit under the door. We also liked the helpful and pleasant reception staff, the curtains that did a good job of keeping out the daylight, the free wi-fi, the small fridge with spare capacity for our own breakfast stuff - you'll read why later, and the quality of the room servicing.

We would have liked some UK-Swiss electrical adapters, tea/coffee making facilities, complimentary bottled water and a little more WC knee room. We only found the safe on day three of our stay!

The situation of the hotel is great if you're visiting the university - EPFL - it's virtually on the campus. But otherwise it's possibly a little too far out of Lausanne for the full tourist job although like most hotels in Lausanne the hotel reception will provide you with free Lausanne Transport Cards for the duration of your stay which gives you free bus and metro travel within the main areas of Lausanne and lakeside Ouchy. Just allow 25 minutes to get there. It's Switzerland, the buses and metro are clean, comfortable, safe and reliable and used by everyone. The free cards however will not take you to Morges, which lakeside is well worth a visit, and has the nearest station if you are arriving from Geneva Airport.

As for dislikes, the mini bar was a total rip-off - as a regular traveller this is a common complaint. Does anyone ever really use them or would they be more profitable for the hotel if the prices were halved so everyone would use them? I usually totally ignore them.

Same for the breakfast which wasn't included in our room charge - continental at 10CHF giving you just a coffee, a glass of fruit juice and the smallest croissant ever seen or the full works for 25CHF - no wonder hardly anyone seemed to use the restaurant. Rip-off time again! We brought in bottled drinks, some crackers and cheese for a much better and cheaper breakfast. The bar was just an extension of the check-in desk, totally characterless, no atmosphere and not surprisingly, little used, at least when we were there.

Other unsatisfactory aspects was the hotel information provision - nothing in writing in the room, but supposedly on your room TV - but with a complete lack of information of any useable sort on-screen - a complete failure on the hotel's part! If you can't do it properly - don't do it at all! Plus, as usual, a pathetic selection of free TV channels, a complete lack of other bars, cafes and restaurants within walking distance, and inadequate clothing storage or hanging space in the room especially for two people. Just turning the hanging rail by 90 degrees would more than double the hanging space - who designs this rubbish?

It's acceptable but not perfect - the hotel could and should do better with relatively little effort.

Room Tip: In summer ask for a ground floor room with patio area and views over the lake towards the French mountains. Definitely not a place for kids.

This hotel is clean, modern and comfortable. However it is far away from the centre of Lausanne and public transport to here is not frequent. There is no pool but an indoor gym (no windows). No restaurants around the area. The hotel restaurant closes at 10pm and there is no room service. Go here if you visit epfl or are on business and have a car. Do not go as a family as children will find it dead boring.

This hotel is modern, clean, bright and comfortable but way out of the centre. The metro is a short(ish) walk from the hotel.
I only had breakfast there one morning. I opted for the cheaper "continental" breakfast which was a coffee, a croissant and a glass of orange juice. It was CHF10 - about €8.32. The full breakfast was CHF25. They let me have two pastries, both of which were small but tasty. Coffee and orange juice were tasty too.

Rooms are strange in that they're open plan - one glass door to the toilet and one to the shower. These face the sink area which backs on to the bed behind it with a small wall in between.

There was a workspace area and a large window. The curtains did a great job of blocking out the sunlight and there is an electric external blind for extra sun protection.

My colleague had a room with a view of the lake and mountains. Nice. I had a view of the rooms opposite mine!

I had some trouble with the Wi-Fi but that was probably because I was trying to use it with more than one device. It seems you need to log off from one device to be able to use it on another.

I quite liked the area. It's directly opposite the university and you can get to a small pebble beach at the lake in about five minutes - head down to the lake and turn left. There are a couple of benches beside the "beach" - a nice place to relax after a hard day's work. There's also a nice restaurant and bar (although we only used the bar!) if you head down to the lake the same way and turn right instead of left. It's called Restaurant Le Débarcadère Sàrl. Two large beers in the hotel cost CHF18. Two beers - same size - in this hotel was CHF12. Also a park and playground nearby.

My total hotel bill was CHF407. Not bad for what it was in Switzerland I thought.

Room Tip: I was in 2101 on the "ground" floor and when the door is open, people walking down the main thoroughfare of the hotel can see into the room and into the shower and toilet through the mirror! Not a problem if you're travelling alone or always go out of the room together but worth bearing in mind if there are two of you on different schedules! Higher rooms have better views, of course.

Good rooms, good beds, good bathroom. The 'open plan' living combining bathroom and bedroom didnt bother us but might nt be to everyones taste. The lack of -enough- free parking spaces doesnt befit a hotel in this price bracket, location ( way off centre ) ánd with a reasonably sized parking available under the hotel. Why they let guests pay for their parking ... By the hour mind you ... We dont understand. We drove up to a local restaurant for dinner but only to discover that the pricing in the hotel was typical for switzerland, as in steep.
Fortunately we only payed half price as a last minute deal.
