“Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2014

Just spent a superb week at Hotel Annahof in Saas Fee with my husband, son, daughter in law, two grandsons, daughter who arrived mid week and another family of four. I can honestly say it is one of the best managed hotels we have stayed at. Andrew Farley and his staff were all extremely helpful and pleasant. The food was excellent and the rooms bright and clean. The child care was second to none and the location right on the nursery slopes was magnificent. We all enjoyed the afternoon tobogganing trip which was great fun and organised by Hannah who also led the ski hosting. I would certainly recommend this friendly hotel for a family skiing holiday.

Just spent a weeks skiing with our 2 kids age 3 and 5. Hotel well situated at base of nursery slopes. All staff amazing especially child care and snow ranger team. Good food. A friendly hotel as relatively small in a friendly resort. Spent a great day in Zermatt with a mountain guide enabled by esprit childcare team looking after our kids all day. Loads of great powder snow all week and it is still snowing.

The hotel was lovely, staff friendly but professional, rooms clean and towels regularly changed and the food was simply delicious! The childcare was superb and both son and daughter thoroughly enjoyed their time in kids club and ski lessons, neither had skiied before but by the end of the week my daughter (6) was on the blue slopes. Fabulous location of the hotel in relation to kids ski lessons, the Tele-cabins and the town. I couldn't of asked for any more to make the holiday any better, (only not such an early departure Time! Ha! HA!)
Would just like to thank Andrew (Manager) and his team for a wonderful family holiday!!

Dear Trudi,
We shall certainly let Andrew and the team know what a great success your first family ski holiday was. We'll see what we can do next time to improve on that early flight time!

We had been travelling all day from England and when we arrived we were greeted by the manager call Andrew. When we went up to our rooms our bags were already there which made our life so much easier especially when you have two very tired children. When we came downstairs there was a while selection of afternoon tea with cakes and soup. It was just what we needed. After we had got our ski's we went skiing the next day. We only had to wake 20 meters untill we hit the slopes. The location is absolutely fabulous. We got on very well with the barman Austin and the deputy manager Siobhan, they were always very happy to chat with us. There were two chalet assistant's called Megan and Stewart who were always there to help us with whatever we needed which was very helpful. Also the childcare people were extremely nice. My child's favourite ranger was Josh because he always made him laugh. One of the best parts was when we were taken sledging by the ski rep Hannah. It was extremely fun and all the kids loved it. All in all, it was an amazing holiday, and worth every penny! I will definitely be returning with my wife and children.

We were a party of 39 (7 families) in the first week of the season pre Christmas 13 and did slightly take over the hotel. Apologies to other guests!
Staff were absolutely superb from pick up at coach park through to getting luggage in rooms and every day general looking after us. Bar manager Austin and hotel manager and his assistant manager whose names I have sadly forgotten were all stand out.

Grumbles from the kids in the group were about the kids food - bit hit and miss in terms of edible (my kids eat everything) and portion control seemed to ignore the size of the child (we had some big hungry ones) - and also the Cocoa club took a while to adapt to the fact that 11 year olds are not interested in singsongs. but were then taught some proper sign language which they really enjoyed.

Grown up food was really good. The wine was much better than expected and not in short supply.

Heated proper boot room a blessing. Non working jacuzzi less good and apologies for erratic hot water is not what you want. If its a known problem, sort it. Everyone wants a shower between 4 and 7!
So apart from engineering problems and a bit more care with the kids food and dishing it up, this is an excellent place and this years team got off to a great start. Really nice bunch.

My family and I, kids aged 5 and 7, had a great 2013 Christmas break at the Chalet Annahof. We would thoroughly recommend it.

Pros
- Fantastic food. The chefs were amazing and far surpassed what I expected. Breakfast is a cold buffet but you can help yourself to pancakes or order a cooked breakfast or porridge. Lunch is a smaller affair though still 2 courses, usually salad followed by pasta or carbs dish. 4 o'clock tea was brilliant - cakes, biscuits, soup, cheese straws, pizza slices.... Dinner started at 7.30pm with an aperitif & small nibbles (these were a highlight, scallops etc) and then 4 courses including wine. You need to ski hard to burn it all off.
- The staff. They were all brilliant and Hannah the rep especially so. Many of the staff were young but full of fun and enthusiasm and managed well by Andrew, the hotel manager. Also they were all very approachable and got to know the kids really well.
- Childcare. I think my kids would have spent their entire holiday in club, given the chance they loved it so much. Being able to hand your children over at 8.30am so you can focus on getting up the mountain is just brilliant.

Cons
- transfer from Geneva is a pain (3 hours) and a 15 walk through the village. The worst part though was waiting for an extra 1.5 hours at Geneva for all the other flights to arrive before the coach left. Not sure Esprit can do much about this but good to know what to expect.
- resort management/geography. Perhaps we were just unlucky with the weather but the Saas Fee management appeared to close lifts more readily than other resorts we've skied. Of our 6 days, we only had one day went the whole resort was opened which was a shame for experienced skiers. Nursery slopes were open though.

All in all a great family winter holiday in a great chalet with a great company (Esprit) but a little hampered by the lack of available challenging skiing.

Room Tip: Room 22 had a bath. Worth it for the extra space.

The hotel was wonderful, food delicious, staff courteous yet friendly.

Location was a bit of a trek from the airport, 3hrs, but worth it for the position which was right at the bottom of the slope. No distance at all to the beginner ski area and lifts, couldn't have asked for better.

The rooms are lovely, clean, and bathroom was spacious. The water levels in the hotel vary resulting in some tepid showers during peak times but jacuzzi and sauna more than makes up for that. Be careful with the mezzanine rooms, they're are a great idea for children, but they need to be old enough to confidently cope with steep stairs if they need the bathroom in the night, and they are unsuitable for adults.

Overall we had a wonderful stay, in a lovely village. Meals and drinks are a bit pricey, but it's Switzerland so that's to be expected. Annahof did free lunches, afternoon teas, and free wine with a huge evening meal, including appetisers, and a cheese course including the standard 3 courses. Food was superb and varied.

We went with Esprit with a 5yo and 8yo, Childcare and lessons were fab, children loved it! Special touches at Christmas with Santa leaving footprints and a wonderful traditional turkey dinner.

We'll be returning after trying out a few other ski resorts as this was the first we've done!

Room Tip: We initially had room 35 to sleep 6 people, it wasn't comfortable for 6 but the manager was very...
