we chose the hotel because of its location overlooking St Moritz and the valley. The check-in was without hassle, we collected keys and passes for the cable car at the cable car counter, a pity though that there was no garage for the car down, but we could park easily. The hotel room we took was a suite, large and comfortable. The restaurant food was great and with very romantic atmosphere.
Staff was very helpful and friendly, can only recommend!

The travel to the hotel was very easy. At Zurich airport we went to the ticket counter and we were able to book a return ticket to muottas muragl from there. This is three trains that were seamless in their connections. A tip here is to ask for the panoramic carriage in 2nd class for the chur to Samedan leg. The upgrade was only minimal think 5pp and the views and photo opportunities were amazing from this carriage! The final train from Samedan be sure to press the request stop button when you get on the train and it's one stop to where you need to be. Unless you press it the train will go past as its a request only station. When you get off the train walk up the slope and you are at the funincular station (3 minutes)

This takes you up the mountain and our room key and funincular pass were left for us at the bottom of the funincular (very efficient and streamlined process). The view on the way up is beautiful snowy picture!

We had booked a superior room with views over the lake. When waking up on a morning and looking out of the window it never failed to make us smile! I don't think we have ever stayed anywhere with such simply stunning picture perfect views! The toiletries provided were plentiful and the shower was lovely and hot. It was between -4 and -18 outside when we were there. If there was one thing we would change it would have been to have the room a little warmer. But only a small thing and everything else was near perfect!

The breakfast (included) was tasty, varied and plentiful. We ate in the main restaurant a few nights, again the staff were warm, personable and efficient and the food of excellent standard, the steak was amazing! A tip is to book the Thursday night fondue evening in the scala restaurant. The restaurant was candlelit and romantic, the fondue good fun and tasty. As it was our anniversary break we were also given free scrumptious deserts a lovely gesture! Again the service was superior and we were well looked after.

Sooo the sledging!! We agonised over it because from our room it looked steep and pretty much 3/5 people appear to crash on the first turn. However it's a must! I recommend a helmet (not available for rent) we didn't bring any but other people did and it would have been sensible because boy it was fast!! Tips are wear snow shoes you will need to dig your heels in to break and learn how to turn early on!! it's fast, steep and many turns but you will kick yourself if u don't do it!

The philosophers trail from the hotel is a must, beautiful views all the way along and benches with blankets for you to sit and relax and take in the view!

It's also less than a ten min bus journey from the bottom of the funincular to st moritz. There is a nice walk around the lake here, more winter sports and plenty of shops! Although have to say we were glad we were staying up the mountain as everything seemed more peaceful and pretty up there.

Another must is a late afternoon drink in the outside restaurant over looking the views wrapped up under the blankets.

In summary despite having stayed in many places we think this hotel is one of the best all rounders in terms of setting, views, activities, food and service.Yes it wasn't cheap but I would consider it good value for all of the above. We shall no doubt be back! Thanks

A delightful 2 night stay with delicious food, efficient check-in, friendly service and of course magnificent views. Watching the sun rise and set on the snow capped mountains from our bedroom windows was so exhilarating!

Our trip was also inspired by the current website 'Man in seat 61' but we were not at all disappointed. The hotel is "Swiss pine" as the previous reviewer states but we like the contemporary minimalist design (far removed from any Hilton I have stayed in). Relaxing in the sun on the delightful terrace up in the clear mountain air was a treat and far preferable for us to the contrived commercialisation of designer shops in St.Moritz.

Horses for courses - depends on your taste!
Would definitely recommend to like-minded romantics..........

Room Tip: Valley views ideally with balcony or corner room with valley and mountain views.

Our Swiss rail trip was inspired by a "Man in Seat 61" article a couple of years ago which included a mention of this "special place" as a stop on the Bernina Express. I suspect he was referring to the previous un-modernised hotel!

We hopped off the train in the middle of nowhere (Punt Muragl), took a deep breath of very silent Swiss air, and trundled off to find our high point. 100m up the track and all was clear. We collected our cable railway ticket and headed up the mountain. Spectacular.

Reception I'd describe as cool - this is a high-price hotel but that is not really reflected in how it operates: our other (lower cost/altitude) hotels were much more welcoming.

Our room was small - as described, so no surprises - but in a tiny room why have beds designed so that luggage can't be tucked away underneath? It is "Swiss pine" done well, for sure, but really lacks attention to design detail. It needed a boat cabin mindset to create clever gems, not just a standard Hiltonisch outcome.

Breakfasts were good but not better than other hotels we stayed in on our trip..

Dinner proved to be something of a debacle. It started well but any service after the main course proved difficult and when I walked out it still proved difficult to sign off the bill - it was the terrace waiter who sorted things out.

The location and view are indeed spectacular and the terrace bar is a super day-trip destination, but this hotel trades too heavily on its location and Romantik name.

For my money I'd get a better "high point" and romantic experience had I stayed in St Moritz in a good hotel there. This was not a stop I'd repeat.

Room Tip: Stay in St Moritz; come here just for lunch.

Amazing, fantastic, fabulous. There are no adjectives to define this place. For us, who lives in a tropical country, is the best. You'll be surrounded by mountains, most of then with eternal snow on the top. The hotel is sofisticated with a very nice breakfast. The rooms are not so big, but they're fine. The bathroom had a lot of amenities. The windows had the mountain view, wich is a very nice thing for us. The train station is just down the "funicular" and reachble by foot. We loved the place!
