“Great little hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

My husband and I stayed here one night to break up the travel between Luzern and Lake Como. It was a good idea. The town is lovely and this hotel is a cute place. The elevator alone was worth the stay. The room was a good size and had a nice view. The breakfast was very good - although I didn't realize that each room was assigned a table and sat in the wrong seat - oops! The staff was friendly and very helpful. The hotel provides free transport to and from the train station. I didn't know what time we would be arriving so we just walked to the hotel from the train station. The walk was not long was was up a very steep hill - I recommend getting the free ride! Internet access was available but not in the room - only in the TV lounge. Although, this ended up being a good place to meet other travelers.

We spent 4 nights at the hotel. Our room was very clean, nice, and spacious and had a lovely large balcony with views of the mountains and the town. The staff are fantastic …. very welcoming, helpful and attentive. We stayed inclusive half board (breakfast and evening meal) and found the food plentiful and delicious. The hotel also offers a free transport pass to guests staying more than 2 nights giving free transport on ALL forms of transport (and cable cars, funiculars etc) in the area and we found this particularly beneficial. Would we stay again …. Without a doubt …. We have no problem recommending this hotel and we hope to return again soon.

Staff could not have been nicer, the location is optimal, the room very comfortable and clean. The restaurant is decent (but nothing exceptional). Best things: it's quiet, the free wi-fi, and the general transport pass you get if staying for more than 2 nights (this gives access to all local bus and rail, as well as trams, chairlifts and funiculars - an amazing savings).

We spent 5 nights in June in Hotel Bernina. We felt that we were treated like royalty beginning with the pickup at the train station. Especially nice were the balcony in our room and the wonderful breakfasts. And the staff were very responsive to our need for help with the computer. This was the best hotel of our 2 weeks in Switzerland.

Not having visited this part of Switzerland before we were delighted to find that the scenery and facilities were excellent. The town of Pontresina is convenient for really good mountain hikes both from the town itself and by using the cable cars, chair lifts, trains and buses which are all convenient and made all the more attractive by the fact that hotel guests receive a free card which gives unlimited access to all of these forms of transport in the locality. This must have saved us a very considerable sum over the week which we spent there.
Our room at the hotel was comfortable, very clean and of a reasonable size with a small balcony and window looking down the valley to the mountains. We had a bath with a shower over which was fine apart from a dislike of shower curtains which cling to you when wet!
All of the staff at the hotel were very friendly and spoke excellent English. Breakfast consisted of a good selection of cereals, cheese, meats, bread/croissants, jams, yoghurts and fruit and gave us a good start to the day. We opted for half board with the five course option which gave excellent value with a variety of tasty options none of which were too large so it was always possible to finish the meal without feeling overfull.
Pontresina is very quiet in the evenings, there was a market in the main street one evening and a concert in the forest another but apart from that not much to do, in common with most Swiss mountain towns. The hotel does not have a lounge for residents and this would be a very welcome addition as we enjoy playing cards and having a quiet drink, playing cards, planning the following day or listening to music and this had to be done in our bedroom.
We arrived by car and there was free parking at the front of the hotel. I believe that there is also undercover parking at the rear but that there is a fee for this.
Overall a very comfortable clean and friendly hotel in an excellent location which I do not hesitate to recomend.

Pontresina is a good location if you are interested in seeing the local area by bus and / or train, cross-country skiing or winter walking. The Hotel Bernina is comfortable and the service was particular good - friendly and discreet. The single room supplement is small and there were several single travellers staying. The breakfast and half-board restaurant has a good view and the food was enjoyable with a choice of main course, staff were very helpful and special dietary requests were catered for without fuss.

The hotel is described on the MySwitzerland website as being in an especially quiet location. The rooms themselves were spacious and very quiet - no sound from adjacent rooms. However the hotel is on the main road through town, not set back as some of the other hotels are and traffic, particularly snow ploughs, could be noisy in the early morning if you had the window open. So quiet, but not especially quiet. A residents lounge with a view would have been nice.

The bus stop is opposite the hotel and the train station about 5 minutes walk downhill (more going uphill!) and the hotel will meet you at the station on arrival. A trip on the Bernina Express to Poschiavo is particular recommended.

I was 1 of 3 ladies that flew overnight across the atlantic to Zurich. We hoped on the train to Pontresina and the hotel met our train and drove is the 5 mins (totally up hill though) to the hotel.

We chose to take 3 single rooms that each had an ensuite bathroom with breakfast included. Huge selection of food for breakfast that I would say is typical for Switzerland (rolls, breads, cereals, cheeses, fruit, crackers, cold meats, porriage, coffee & juice).

The rooms were clean, nicely decorated and roomy for one person. Nice view with and there weren't any noise issues.

What I think that stands out is the service that we experienced. It was exceptional and was warmly received since we were tired from the travel over.
