“Nice Week end in the Swiss Alps”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

It's a very nice hotel, excellent for family's with children. What I dislike of this hotel is is the dinner (normally included in the room rate) too formal, you've to wear jacket, excellente the breakfast.

Room Tip: Usually we take a room in the Bellavista pavillion, are brand new rooms with balcony or garden acces...

I wrote a review three years ago after the hotel reopened under new management. My review was entirely positive. We have stayed each year since then and have found everything outstanding.

This year my wallet was stolen changing trains at Chur. One can judge an hotel by the service one receives in such a situation, and I must say the reception staff were terrific. They did everything possible to help and it made a considerable difference.

I can recommend every aspect of the hotel: the staff, the rooms, the spa and the food. For instance, the Kronenhof breakfast is the benchmark that my family uses to judge all other hotel breakfasts.

We love staying here and recommend it most highly.

From my first email to checkout, I was absolutely amazed by the quality of the staff at this magnificent hotel. I ask alot of questions before I make a reservation and all my emails were answered promptly. The friendly and professional concierge met me at the train station and I was whisked away promptly to the hotel. Check in was quick and I was given a tour of the hotel and offered a welcome drink.

I reserved a single room which had recently been renovated. There was a large bottle of water and a lovely fruit bowl in the room. They were both replaced daily. The room was quiet and peaceful with a private balcony. There was a safe in the room, plenty of closet space, and had good lighting. The bathroom had a heated floor and a seperate shower and large tub. Housekeeping was perfect and I love the turn down service.

Breakfast and dinner were included in my rate. Lots of healthy choices at breakfast. Fresh juices, sliced fresh fruit, large assortment of bread/rolls/pastries, meats, vegetables, eggs, cereal, local butter and jam, etc. In other words, plenty to hold you over until dinner! They also make a great cappucino to help start your day ;)

Dinner was served in the same beautiful room as breakfast but it looks completely different in the evening. They have a piano player that provides excellent background music. 5 star food and service at dinner. Food was beautifully displayed. I love that they have small tables for ladies to place their purses instead of placing them on the dinner tables. Very elegant. As a single traveller, I did not feel uncomfortable at all dining alone. All the waiters were quick, friendly, and professional. The dinner service was always flawless.

The pool and spa are simply perfection! I had a facial and it was one of the best I have ever had. I love the seperate area for children. The big pool is refreshing and very peaceful with a beautiful view. The spa is very quiet and clean. I love the kneipp area and the seperate ladies lounge.

There is a business center with a complimentary computer and a printer for hotel guests. I only had to wait once to use this area.

I snooped around many areas of this hotel. There were lots of places to just sit quietly and/or read in many of the public rooms. The Kronenhof has been beautifully lovingly renovated. It retains its old world charm but is not "stuffy". This hotel is definitely a place to rest and renew yourself.

I absolutely love this hotel and its staff. Every staff member I encountered was professional and friendly. The staff genuinely want you to enjoy your stay in the beautiful Kronenhof. It truly is a very special hotel.

A very family and children friendly hotel that has managed to combine the modernist of facilities with genuine hospitality...

Super cuisine, service and stay...they have a great team of staff who really do try and cater for every need...

Only room for improvement was no wifi in room (in Lobby), otherwise couldn't find fault anywhere..oh and on the wellness / spa..book asap, it is very sought after.....

Room Tip: South facing for the breathtaking view..

This beautifully renovated landmark hotel has made an incredible come-back! Beautiful rooms and impeccable, very charming service has definitely made this 5* Hotel a "must-visit destination". It is very refreshing to see that Switzerland, especially the Engadin, has gotten a hotel again, where the clients' wishes come first and staff will do anything possible to make you feel at home. As a very frequent traveller I was pleasantly surprised to experience not only the deluxe comfort of the newly decorated room, but moreover the exquisite cuisine of the Hotel's own restaurant "Stübli". Whether in the summer or in the winter for skiing the famous alps around St.Moritz, this should really be your first choice... K. Moosmann

Together with friends (two families with a teenager each) we spent six days at this old, but expertly renovated hotel. My husband and I had a double room De Luxe and our son had an adjacent Single Room De Luxe in the new wing. Both rooms were well-sized, contemporarily furnished and had well-appointed bathrooms as well as balconies. To our astonishment, the hotel was far from being fully booked although we were there in the second week of July (high season in many parts of Switzerland, but not in the Engadine). Sometimes we were completely on our own in the dining room or in the lounge which felt somewhat strange and didn’t contribute to a good atmosphere. Nevertheless, we felt well at ease as most employees were friendly and helpful, especially the ones at the front desk. As we were on half board, we had dinner in a beautiful ancient hall where the male guests were asked to wear a jacket for it (in the confirmation letter there was even talk of wearing a suit with tie but this turned out to be rather wishful thinking than reality). The staff there was rather formal, especially the male servers. As far as the food was concerned, a fine 5-course-dinner was served and the portions were plentiful. Also the breakfast was taken in this hall. You could help yourself from a well-arranged buffet and egg dishes could be ordered with the personnel. The facilities of the Kronenhof are really impressive: In addition to the mentioned half board restaurant there is also an à la carte restaurant (16 points Gault Millau) and a casual place for lunch in the garden. With respect to wellness, there is a fantastic pool area and a beautiful spa. Apart from a bar (where unfortunately smoking is allowed) there is a lounge and several others rooms where you can settle yourself. Once during our stay there was a guest reception where to our astonishment neither the manager nor many other guests were present. A glass of Prosecco was served but the employees in charge seemed to see no need to refill our glasses once they were empty … Anyway, we enjoyed our stay in the Kronenhof as it is a beautiful old hotel which had been restored masterly, features great facilities and whose staff is usually eager to please.

We recently spent two days in the Kronenhof. The hotel is truly magical and in a perfect central location with stunning views of the glacier. We stayed in a double "comfort" room (second cheapest category) in a hotel where they have many luxurious suites, but we were treated as special guests by every staff member, who immediately knew us by name. The hotel staff are charming and professional - and seem justifiably proud of their hotel, and the Engadine region.
Our room was spacious and light with a lovely view to the west - silky fine cotton sheets and down bedding - a true Swiss experience.. Everything spotless as you would expect. Breakfast provides a huge choice and is excellent, especially the fresh sqeezed orange juice and freshly baked breads. Eggs cooked to order. Really no downside. A memorable stay and we hope to return.

The views from the rooms and from the over 2000 m2 sprawling Spa provides majestical views over the glaciers of the Bernina, the charming Val Roseg as well as the surrounding pine and larch forests. In the magnificent Grand Restaurant from the year 1872, the cozy and timelessly elegant gourmet restaurant Kronenstübli or in the historic wooden pavilion offering fantastic views, the Kronenhof presents culinary variety between the classic French, traditional Italian and regional cuisine.
