“The best”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

This was our second time at the Saratz within a year and like the first time, this time too the experience was simply wonderful. The staff is one of the best, they are warm, friendly and very helpful and one of its strengths. The restaurants, the playroom, the pool, the fitness centre and the hotel grounds are lovely. Its a wonderful place to relax for families with children. The free travel card offered during the summer allows convenient ccess to the train services, cable cars etc. The unrestricted view of the mouintains from the rooms is beautiful. I strongly recommend this place for anyone visiting the Engadine region

Thank you very much for your fantastic review!
We are pleased to informe you, that starting from Winter 2012/13 you will be able to buy Ski pass for the whole region (Corviglia, Corvatsch, Diavolezza & Zuoz) for only CHF 25.00 per person and day. Another great achievement for the region of the upper Engadine, which will enable our visiting clients from around the world to enjoy the region intensively like they do already during the summer!

Best Regards

No stuffed marmots here. This hotel is grand, classy and stylish and thankfully with friendly and helpful staff and not stuffy as you would imagine with some hotels at the high end. The hotel lobby wows you with its riot of colours from the modern art and tasteful furniture. Checking in was actually a pleasant experience; after a long drive we we shown to the terrace, handed a glass of bubbly and enjoyed the view whole they parked our car and took our bags to our room.

Our room was lovely, tastefully decorated, fully kitted bathroom and one of the most comfortable bed I have slept on. I was even more delighted that they had British satellite tv so could watch the Olympics in bed and my 5 year old was so happy with CBeebies (we dont live in the UK). This hotel gets top marks because it provided us with kettle and free tea and coffee and that small thing made all the difference to me.

The swimming pools, both indoors and out were the highlights of my daughter's stay and she was In there every afternoon after our daily hike. I also even managed some golf short game practice!

Breakfast was fit for a king. It was in the main dining room which was like Versailles and I have never seen such a huge spread of the most delicious food on display for breakfast. They even had a separate buffet table for the kids which was imaginative as my daughter enjoyed choosing her breakfast and even ad most of it!

Evenings after dinner were pleasant, you could sit and listen to the pianist and enjoy a nightcap in front of the fire. Perfect!

We spent a week here with 2 kids aged 11 and 5 in a small suite with a view toward the glacier. The welcome was very personal, picked up at the train station then a warm hello at the front desk, which is sit down style. They dont even take a credit card its all dealt with at the end. A prosecco on the balcony as a hello whilst they arranged our luggage upstairs, nice! The breakfast buffet everyday is superb - lovely traditional setting and everything constantly refilled. Several local bottled waters, home made jams, cakes, dried fruits, good coffee. Lovely to look forward to. The hotel in a prime spotin the town just off the man street so you can walk everywhere. They have the best restaurants in town tho so dont rush off anywhere. The informal pitsch eatery is cute and has a lovely view on the balcony. The main restaurant equally good tho wine is pricey. We didnt do the fondue as our kids dont do cheese. Outdoor rather chilly pool but a very pretty setting, well used trampoline, boules, indoor pool fantastic and we were the only ones in there - eye blinking views of the scenery. The grounds are roaming right down to the river and full of wild flowers. The deal includes a free card for buses, trains, cablecars, chairlifts so its sooo easy to wander around and go into nearby saint moritz, only 15 mins away. Go up the local chairlift to the restaurant and have their gestenzuppe, barley soup and monster meringues - so big they feed 4 of you! The scenery is tear jerking and the air is so dry and clear. A must is muottas muragl about 10 mins west, take the local bus from the front door of the hotel. The funicular railway is so steep and there's a trendy eatery at the top with gob smacking views right down the valley. We had a glass of champagne! Little playpark and horses at the top of the mountain too! At night there's a charming pianist in the bar if the hotel - very amusing- and have a cocktail theyre lovely. We had a snack lunch many days on the balcony and were very well looked after. Although its kiddie friendly its also for grown ups. Very relaxing, super service, i would definitely plan a return. Take the train down from zurich, its a real treat. Pontresina is a v pretty little town and much nicer than st moritz its glitzy neighbour, to its worth going in and up the cable car there. Thanks saratz staff you are in my top 5 hotel stays ever, snd i've done a fair bit of travelling incl 5 star usa and your service topped anyone.

Room Tip: In the older building facing the mountains

We stayed three days at the Saratz in late July 2012 and were amazed. We have fairly high standards for our hotels and had compared this one to Badrutt's Palace and the Kronenhof as alternatives. In the end, we wanted a place with a great atmosphere that wasn't stuffy, but still had very high standards.

The staff was incredible - friendly, warm, accomodating. The staff at the fireside bar were great and attentive and hotel has a great vibe. We were offered complimentary drinks on the amazing terrace while we were checked in and the views are stunning. When we arrived in our room, they had a bottle of Prosecco waiting for us as it was our 10 year anniversary.

We had a south facing room in the newer section and the extra $$ for the south facing room was well worth the money. The lobby bar (fireside bar) offered live music with a lively jazz pianist (Aldo) the nights we were there and we spent time sitting there and on the wonderful terrace listening to him.

The hotel connects directly to two great restaurant / bars. La Court is an intimate fondue option and Pitschna Scena is a great restaurant and nice bar scene. On Thursdays it is the "place" to be with live music. Sinesean is a great bar tender and picked out some great wines for us to try.

They have a very nice spa area with a traditional Turkish area with severl neat features. Multiple showers / saunas and steam areas were realy a neat experience (along with the frigid plunge pool.)

Room Tip: Spend the extra $$ for the south facing room.

After several times in this hotel we are impressed again of its perfect combination of a 'Grand Hotel' tradition and innovative conecpts. This hotel combines many amenities and a perfect climate to relax. It is elegant and classy and sportive as well, so you never feel unpleasant when not dressed like on a catwalk. ;-) And it's the little things that makes this hotel a special one: the bottle of springwater in the room, the choice of restaurants of different style directly connected to the hotel and a canny design of the wellness area, with a nice and quiet sauna and hammam. It's a great stay for family with kids as well. The hotel is not located directly to the ski lifts, although it is located central between Diavolezza and St.Moritz/Celerina ski slopes, and there are shuttles and busses to bring you there in a blink!
Go there for a perfect stay in the Engadina!

Hotel Saratz in Pontresina is a good place to stay for couples with children looking for skiing destination. The hotel has a beautiful dining room, spectacular views over snowy mountains and is close to slopes , sledging routes and trendy apres ski spots in St. Moritz.
The hotel swimming pool is not large, but big enough for children to swim and the sun terrace attached to the pool area is a wonderful place to relax with unobstructed mountain view just in front. The hotel also has a Spa - beauty and massages for exhausted skiers and overall service is friendly and attentive. The rooms are spacious, if a bit impersonal. A nice touch is to offer guests a chance to pre-order local produce of dried meats, jams, fresh bread and cookies to take back home

The most relaxing thing while traveling is to know that you don't have to worry about a thing, it'll be taken care of politely and efficiently. That is perfectly true of the quietly perfect service you can expect to receive at the Saratz.

Pick you up at and deliver you back to the train station? Offer to serve you a free drink on the terrace while you wait for the desk staff to check in another guest? Provide you with a free pass for all regional transportation, including mountain lifts, during your stay? Give you a helmet and lock for the mountain bike you want to borrow from the hotel during your stay? Or one of the motor-assisted bikes? Or the BMW motorcycles? Oh yeah. And plenty more.

The three restaurants we tried at the Saratz were all excellent, with wonderful service and delightful wine lists. The breakfast buffet is a joy, even in a country known for lovely breakfast buffets. (This last visit was during the high season, but we know from previous stays that the restaurant choices and size of the breakfast buffet is reduced during the low season, but it's still good.)

Our room was spacious and comfortable, with good sheets and a nice bathroom. We requested a view room and I suggest you do the same.

The spa is free to guests and amazing: whirlpools, swimming pool and solarium with a view of the Rosegg Valley, sauna, steam room, chilled water tub, and hamman. Massages and other special treatments are extra and also worth it.

There is a much fancier hotel next door and loads of other nice hotels in the area, but my heart is with the comforts and guaranteed relaxation of the Saratz.
