“Very nice place to stay”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

We stayed at Guest House Le Charlot for one night while travelling around Switzerland. We had the apartment on the top floor which was very spacious and clean. The views are beautiful and the town of Vevey is very nice with lots of friendly people. The parking can be a bit of an issue so just check with the Guest House regarding the rules.

A choice spot in the charming and convenient town of Vevey. We were made very welcome by Julien the moment we stepped into the sandwich/baguette shop for check in. The room was spacious, and the comfortable bed high enough to store cases underneath. Stairs to third floor are manageable. Location is close to the train station and trolleybus 201 to Montreux. Plenty of shopping nearby, and also a good starting point for travelling to Gruyeres or Broc Fabrique.

Room Tip: If you can't get a lake view, the other rooms looking over the laneway are quiet and have a view...

We stayed at Le Charlot for 4 nights. This is right on the square in the old-town area of Vevey.
The staff are friendly and polite, as were everyone we met in Vevy and Montreux.

The entrance to the rooms are round the back from the cafe, so you have to exit the building and re-enter for breakfast. The Cafe is a sandwich shop with a very laid-back atmosphere, great for chilling out and a chat with the staff.

The room we had was spacious, clean and with a fantastic view out over the square and lake. Bed was big and comfy. There is also a fridge, kettle, hair drier, very large flat-screen tv and a comfy leather swivel chair, ideal for relaxing while looking over the lake.

There are many shops and cafes around the cafe. For UK visitors the shops are very expensive. It should be noted that most restaurants in the town are closed on Sunday and Monday nights.

Travel is very easy with the train station just 5 mins up the road. Also bus 201 takes you right along the sea-front through Villeneuve and Montreux. The cafe gave us a free travel card when we arrived. This was very useful with many trips on route 201, and even a free trip on the Funicular up the mountainside (highly recommended). It also gives you half-price entry to tourist spots such as the Chateau de Chillon.

Stayed here one night on recommendation from a colleague. Room was huge, spotless and with a beautiful view over the lake. The manager stayed open as we had been delayed in Geneva and even prepared us something to eat as many restaurants in the area were not open. Had a great night's sleep and a lovely continental breakfast the next morning.

We stayed at Le Charlot for one night while driving across Switzerland. We found the guesthouse ideal for us. It is right on the market square by the lake in the centre of town so restaurants, bars and shops are easily accessible on foot. Our room was very spacious and modern with a superb bathroom although the water supply was a bit of a problem at times. There is no lift but the stairs are quite manageable. Parking in the square can be a problem as there is a two hour limit between 8:00 in the morning and 8:00 in the evening. Breakfast is provided in the sandwicherie at the front of the building on the square. It was fairly basic but very fresh and tasty. Check-in/out is also at the sandwicherie. The service is very friendly and helpful.

Only there for one night, but the stay started brilliantly with a friendly check in. While I arrived late, the lady even offered to make me a bite as the restaurants in town had closed. The room was clean, spacious and the bed extremely comfortable. Very reasonably priced for the area, and I had a lovely lake view. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: I loved my lake review

Great 4 night stay in room 301 – third floor with 38 steps but in short runs so manageable for us over 60s! Easy walk from the station. Pleasant welcome in the cafe and the lady who checked us in carried a suitcase round to the entrance and up the stairs for us. Our room was on the back of the building, overlooking a leafy residential square in the picturesque, narrow streeted old town. The room and shower room were bright, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Love those windows which open wide with a turn of the handle! Welcome addition of kettle, tea, coffee and fridge – unusual in Europe but very handy. Quiet at night. Sounds of the locals and nice smell of bread cooking to wake up to. Minor negatives were no teaspoons, only one bedside table and one instance of low water power but these didn't detract from this being a very good place to stay. High, wide bed with high level of comfort and bed linen. Excellent standard of cleanliness and presentation. There is a phone which you can use to call someone in case of any difficulties. Very good internet, easy connection. Ate in the café for 2 of our breakfasts - good food and atmosphere with local folk popping in and out. Staff all friendly with good English and anxious to please. Used the free Riviera Card for trains, funiculars, buses, half fare on boat. Surprised at what a lovely town Vevey is. Lake and mountains, promenade with beautiful flowers, boats, market place, old streets and squares, pavement cafes, park, modern shops and malls. Highly recommended. Stay as long as you can!
