“Enjoyed the stay!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2013

Keeping in mind that Switzerland can be pricey, we were very pleased with our stay. The accommodation had a large bedroom with a very comfy bed, and beautiful bathroom. The included breakfast was delicious and plentiful. There was a fan in the room, which helped, but air conditioning would have been appreciated as it was very warm in Vevey during our stay. It was hot and humid in the room even with the fan. The view from our room was the alley, not very interesting, however, it meant quiet nights. The opposite side of the building would have beautiful lake views. The staff were very accommodating and helpful with our questions. We were provided with a tourist card to use for buses/trains, which was well used. It was only a few minutes to Montreux by train. The Guest House is in a fabulous location -- within a short walking distance to trains/buses, shopping, restaurants, museums, and the beach! We stayed here to be close to Montreux for the Jazz Festival. For anyone planning a stay here, be sure to drop into Le Charlot Restaurant/Cafe. The staff there will provide you with keys to your accommodation and show you to your room.

Having stayed at nearly every hotel in Vevey ( working for a local Multinational), the Charlot was a great surprise. Check in and out at the sandwich shop was ok but as other reviewers have said needs better signage, but after that.......
The room was exceptional, large, airy, wood floors, great bed, big widescreen tv, shower with 50cm shower head, and all brand new. Great view out onto market square and lake.
No air con, which I didn't mind, but all windows open both tilt and fully open ( and double glazed so quiet at night)
Young lady in shop very nice, speaks English , takes you to the room.
I'd say after the grand hotels, this is the best room in Vevey.

The hotel is an easy walk to and from the train station and very convenient. The room was just as pictured on the web site, except larger in person. The room was very clean and had modern renovations. Check-in was easy and Julien recommended a good resturant near the hotel. We has a room with a view of the lake (which also comes with the noise from the parking area. If you are a very light sleeper, you many need some earplugs if you stay on a Friday or Saturday night). The only issue we had was at check-out. I had pre-paid for the room using PayPal, but the young lady wanted me to pay again for the room. I brought a hard copy of my email confirmation and PayPal receipt with me (just in case) and after a call to Julien, the problem was resolved. The young lady was very nice throughout the process - I think they may benefit from a software program which would help to organize bookings, payments, and receipts. Though we did not eat breakfast, we did order a sandwich to-go which was very good.

Generous sized room, neat, modern, large bathroom and large shower rose. English speaking and friendly service. Free wi-wi. We didn't have a room with a view but the guest house was in a great location, albeit not the easiest to find. Needed to check in at the sandwich shop with the same name. Vevey is a magic place particularly in the sun! Breakfast was in the sandwich shop and was a generous portion of croissants and baguettes, coffee and juice. Recommend.

Nice, small and recently reconstructed hotel, very friendly personal, great location, clean and surprisingly big enough room. Rooms on the back side are quieter. Mattress is a little beat hard. Highly advised!

We stayed at Le Charlot for a week in April, minus one day because we missed our connecting flight from NY due to air controller office fault (impact of the sequestration). The room is spacious, clean, comes with flat screen tv, free WIFI, ultra sleek contemporary bathroom and a gorgeous view of the Alps and Lake Geneva (there are at least 33 swans living nearby).

Check-in is in at the front where the cafe is while the entrance to the room is in a back street and then up two flights of stairs. One a good weather day, the cafe can be busy until late into the evening. If you leave your windows open, the noise and cigarette smokes may permeate into the room. So, close it during the day if you don't want your room to smell.

I didn't have the breakfast but my husband said Le Charlot has the best croissant in town. It's baked fresh daily and has an airy and flaky texture. The staff were all super helpful (esp. when I misplaced the tv controller someone actually came to my room to check).

The guest house is closed to the train station and just a stone throw away from the Promenade which leads to the Charlie Chaplin statue, the Big Fork, Alimentarium, etc. Ask for the Riviera Card from the staff to get discount on GoldenPass Line and free ride on the shuttle from Vevey to Montreux and vice versa which runs every 10 minutes. Transportation in Switzerland is efficient.

The issues we had was the email communications with Julien. Weeks prior to arrival, we asked if we could add a rollaway bed for my cousin but never got a reply despite several follow up. Julien claimed that he never got the email from us. Also, the checkout invoice is more like an informal receipt. We wrote to him asking for a formal invoice but never got it. I think the best way to reach him is to pick up the phone.

My memories of guest houses in the UK conjured up images of cooked breakfasts, staying in people's homes, old fashioned rooms and beds and inadequate plumbing. Its been a while since I stayed in such a place but La Charlot is nothing like that. It doesn't have the facilities and staff of a hotel but the quality of the room, bed, furnishings and shower room exceeded many much more expensive places. The location was perfect. We had a first floor oom with views of the lake - just a step away from the market square, shops, restaurnats and bars. Try Yatus for an early evening glass of wine and tapas. Vevey is a charming destination. We had a very enjoyable stay at LaCharlot and wouldn't hesitate to go back again - in fact we probably will!

Room Tip: The lake view rooms are a little more expensive but worth it
