I found this hotel on tripadvisor and was not disappointed. The hotel is a grand, stately building nestled on the very edge of Lake Thun. The village of Gunten is about 20mins bus ride from the town of Thun. While Guten has only one convenience store, a bakery and a restaurant, Thun has all the shops and amenities anyone needs and is a pretty town with two castles as well. From Thun it is an easy 30min trin trip to Bern. All the public transport connects with each other so one can travel from the Hotel to Bern one way in an hour with minimal waiting time.

The natural beauty around the hotel cannot be adequately described but it is possible to sit all day and drink it in and not have had enough. If you are feeling lazy, the hotel has a comfortable indoor lounge with games and papers or you can lie under an umbrella on a deckchair in the garden and enjoy the view. There is a large outdoor chess set in the garden and a children's playhouse as well. It is also possible to swim in the Lake. There is a fitness room with gym equipment. The breakfast room overlooks the lake making a perfect start to the day. The buffet is generous and varied. I had read some criticisms of the rooms on Tripadvisor but do not think that these were justified. The rooms were well equipped with ensuite, comfortable beds, and a tv and were diligantly serviced everyday. Many have balconies with stunning views. Wifi is available throughout the hotel for free and there is also a small library with computer and internet facilities for free. The hotel also has a classy restaurant but we went out for lunch and dinner. Most staff speak German, French and English.

There are many activities in the surrounding areas: ferry cruises on the lake, walking in the mountains, underground caves to explore, spa hotels, castles, shopping and so on. A car is helpful to get to some of the more scenic spots but public transport is very good.

This was a dream holiday location and the ideal Swiss experience. Switzerland is very expensive to visit and this hotel provided a wonderful experience at a reasonable price. You will be hard pressed to find a better deal.

Room Tip: You can pay more for a lake view room but we were happy with a view over the cute alpine houses on t...

If you like lakes and mountains this is the hotel for you. The hotel backs right onto the lake and has nice grounds with lots of chairs to take in the stunning views of the mountains. On a sunny day it is simply heaven on earth. Definately worth getting a room with a balcony too. The hotel is also a minutes walk from the boats which service the other lakeside towns.
The bedrooms are quite basic and would benefit from a makeover and aircon but the beds are comfortable and large and everything is very clean.
We stayed 6 nights and ate at the restaurant each evening - the meals are excellent. The breakfast buffet is extensive and very tasty.
Would I stay here again? Yes - in a heartbeat. It was very difficult to leave views as good as these.

Room Tip: Get a front lakeside view with balcony

The location is everything in this older hotel. Looking South on the lake of Thun, facing the Bernese mountains and fronted by a small, but beautiful garden, the modern renovation unfortunately stopped at the lower public spaces. The rooms, while ok and clean, are dated and the bathrooms are very small and old. The food choices in the restaurant are very good, with a beautiful view of the lake and the mountains from every seat and the breakfast is outstanding.

My husband and I took a chance and got married in this hotel last August. We’d never been to Switzerland never mind the hotel but the gamble paid off! The staff were super friendly and really accommodating, the garden with the view of the lake is better than any of the pictures show and the food is amazing. Reccommend a room with a view over the lake.

WE stayed for 3 nights in October 2011. When we first arrived we thought it was looking a little tired and not quite as the website advertised, but after our time there we grew to really enjoy the setting. The rooms are quite plain but we had a balcony with a stunning view which made up for what the room lacked in atmosphere. The interiors are a bit old especially the reception area but the breakfast was wonderful and both the half board dinner and the restaurant dinner were wonderful. It is easy to arrive with luggage by the bus from Thun station. We had flown from Australia, trained straight down from Frankfurt then caught the bus from the train station and arrived.....a bit tired.

Room Tip: If you can afford the extra a room with a view of Lake Thun and the mountains with a blacony is the...

I live a few miles away from this hotel, and my husband and I found it while searching for a place to have our small wedding dinner. We went for a test dinner and were blown away by the amazing view--right on Lake Thun, and surrounded by beautiful views of the Alps. We had great wine, fabulous food, and excellent service. They have the best Rösti I've ever had, and the veal in cream sauce is superb.

We reserved a table for our wedding dinner, and the results were just as great. Our family absolutely loved the location and the food. Again, fantastic service. We love it so much, we are in the process of speaking to them about having a celebration party there next year!

We stayed only for 1night on our road-trip in Switzerland and it was hard to leave this place.I wish i could stay more often in such great hotel like Park hotel in Gunten. Everything was perfect there:the hotel with atmosphere of it greatness from before the second world war,yet modern it still kept spirit of the past,a beautiful garden where you can really relax, first class breakfast (possibly the best breakfast we ever had in Switzerland). We also had great dinner in hotels restaurant the evening we arrived,in the hotel you can also find a fitness studio or rent for free a bicycle to get around in that great settings.Renting of the boat is possible if you like to see surroundings from the lake.I will definitely stay in this hotel again.Price was 300 franc per room(3 persons) incl.breakfast.
