This is a family run guesthouse,Eliane your hostess is most helpful and will make your stay a pleasant memory. The rooms are newly constructed after renovation . The facilities are perfectly suited for a short to medium visit .. we stayed 3 nights[dad mum and 14 year old daughter.].Breakfast was in the garden in beautiful sunshine..fresh bread, jams cheese made on the farm,etc...
It was possible to visit the alpine farm where the cows were during the summer and to see the production of the famous gruyere cheese ..but not in some clinical place but the real atmosphere wood smoke fire... Do visit the Chocolate factory at Broc and take a trip to Moleson and the mountain there. We had no car but transport on the local trains and buses was no problem , indeed a joy to be able just to sit and enjoy the view... and everything in Switzerland runs like clockwork.
I would recommend this guesthouse most highly.

Room Tip: The newest room has a double bed and single and wonderful views .

We just returned from a recent Swiss trip and feel compelled to write a review of La Ferme du Bourgoz. Eliane went above & beyond to make sure we had a great stay in Gruyeres. A truly generous, thoughtful person. Thank you for making our Gruyeres visit so memorable!

Ok, we were in a budget. But I wish I wasn't so cheap and pay more for an old fashion hotel at Gruyeres...

Let's see. "B" as an BED. You can check by the room photo that it is not the Marriott. And it is not supposed to be for the price apid. But a noisy and fragile, bed? Forget about sex... (besides, you felt like an unwanted relative, not like a paying guest at this house). The mattress is very, very thin. Forget about a nice and revigorating night of sleep. Just one outlet in the entire room. An amateurish and unstable Internet connection. Every step makes you feel guilty because of the noisy wooden floor. And the lady owner of the B&B don't like too much noises, you know... Three positives about the room: VERY clean; heating (but no A/C); and a great view of Gruyeres from the window in the morning.

The bathroom is outside the room and shared by other guests. According to the owner message at the door, no more than 5 minutes of use, each guest. Are you &%^#$ kiding me? I cursed myself several times for being so cheap. The owner even check on you if you stay too long... Embarassing. "Yes, Mom, I am almost done". The bathroom is clean, though.

Did I forget to mention that you need to take your shoes off in order to go upstairs and occupy your room? "Yes, Mom, I will take my shoes off". You just hope you don't slip away climbing the stairs with your luggage while wearing only socks...

Le'ts discuss "B" as in breakfast. A tiny kitchen. OK... A small table for 6-8 people closed to each other. Errr.. OK. Socialized breakfast: "Would you please pass me the butter?" Hmm Ok. Owner controlling what you eat and the amount you eat. Not Cool. Poor servings. Not OK. Just slices of bread, butter, jelly and waterish coffee as "buffet breakfast" (see the photo). Definitely not OK, especially when you are in Gruyeres and there is no... cheese! Flies flying around. Hell no! Man, that was - by far - the worst breakfast I haver had in Europe, after travelling in the continent for the past 4 years... My wife did not touch the food. She has disgusted.

On the bright side, for those looking for experiencing the "local life", that's the deal. The B&B looks like a typical Swiss home in the region. Smells like countryside too (for good and bad, if you know what I mean). The B&B is very closed to the main attractions of Gruyeres (although you need to walk uphill in order to reach them).

Bottom line: It is hard to be on a strange's house, following her rules (no freedom at all), have a bad night os sleep, have a homeless breakfast and paying the same as a night at the Marriott on the US...

Very comfortable B&B at a farmer's family. We stayed here two nights. The room is in the main chalet, a typical Swiss chalet. The room was comfortable and clean (point to note is that you share the bathroom with possibly one other bedroom). The family produce their own Gruyeres, milk, butter and cream! We walked the Sentier de fromageries and along the way the owners have their cheese farm so they invited us in to see how they make cheese every morning! A great insight into local life.
Breakfast is a highlight and is made by the owner's wife and consists of home-made butter, cheese, milk and excellent Swiss bread! The owners are very helpful and speak English.
The chalet is next to the center of Gruyeres and is approximately a 10 minute walk uphill to the center.
Overall, a great place and we would definitely recommend it to friends!

Just one nite stay in La Ferme du Bourgoz. My friend want to stay 1 more nite to go further around Gruyeres. Even one nite, we both like it...

Why we stay there? famous Cheese town.. we got some surprised experience as the husband was owned a real cheese factory and we could have a private visit. Note he did not speak English (but friendly) and we can just observe the traditional procedures of making cheese..and we no need to go to Cheese museum visit..

B&B is real closed to Medival town & Castle.. easy walk uphill 10 mins.

Room is big enough for 2 people, very clean & enough decors.

Restroom is big with bathtub (our room is shared bathroom). There are room with private bathroom.

Breakfast is good enough with real cheese they made, juicies, coffee, tea, bread, jam..

CHF 100 per nite. Owner Eliane is very efficient on replying emails but she is very busy in real life. She even helped to carry my big lugguage through the lot of stairs uphill... (so light packs if you do not have a car. From train station to B&B, there is an uphill stairs for 10 mins. Not easy if you have a lugguage.) Otherwise used another route like the cars go but much longer..) Luckily Eliane had time to drive us back to train station.. They have a great & sincere heart.. but their real lifes are busy too.. depend on whether they have time..

Other than the stairs up, the one nite stay is great enough (expect a real B&B..like you stay with your relatives' s house).. certainly it's a nice family & experience!

On the 16th day of a two week trip to France and Switzerland, we found ourselves in Gruyere awaiting slightly less expensive midweek flights back home. We had glimpsed the best of both Provence and Lauterbrunnen. What we happened upon at La Ferme du Bourgoz was a family who showed us something perhaps more memorable than the beauty we'd seen; tradition played forward through a tough farm day schedule and an 18th century home shared simply with us as a room with a breakfast produced on the farm. We had a side trip to see our cheese being made by M. du Bourgoz. Don't miss this place; it is the real thing. This is the real Gruyere.

This B&B is a gem!

The B&B is located on a hill between the town and the train station. It is not easy to find, but look for the green signs with the cows, and knock with the woodpecker by the door. If arriving by train, there's a path from the railway stop leading straight to the hostel. The location is very calm and the views are excellent. Cows, hens and a rabbit roam the garden.

We stayed in a 4-bed 2-story family suite with a private bath. Very good beds, lots of towels, but not soap/shampoo. No windows in the top floor made the air there a bit stuffy (in summer).

As others have remarked, no shoes are permitted inside (slippers are provided) - which is an excellent idea! You feel like you are staying with the family running the place, and it is courteous to keep the place nice and clean.

Breakfast was as good as it gets - excellent bread, drinks made to order, home made butter, jams, cheeses and cream.

The host family was very friendly - they prefer communicating in French, but they spoke decent English as well.
