My wife and I made a pilgrimage from Paris just to visit Giger's museum. He's my wife's favorite artist and we enjoyed the whole experience. We had an Airbnb that was a short distance from Gruyères so we walked up the hill to the town. Whew! Steep path and watch out for the angry cattle! Otherwise, it was a fun walk.

The museum is amazing, starting right from the spooky imposing "welcome" desk. You are not allowed to take photos inside the museum, which was a letdown, but it turned out okay because we were allowed to take photos in the lobby, and several important works are duplicated there especially for photogs.

Giger had such an amazing imagination. We enjoyed every minute of our visit. The attic, as other reviewers have mentioned, shows Giger's personal collection of other artists' work. We could see his influences and how, in some ways, other artists could be even more twisted than the master himself. A chainsaw with human teeth? A pie made of...babies? Yes, pretty twisted.

The building itself is appropriately spooky. We felt like the museum was a perfect homage to this special artist. And don't forget to stop in at the bar across the street to cap off your experience!

This museum contains the works of H.R. Giger and his friends and associates, with guest exhibitions of a similar nature. For open-minded adults, it is a fascinating museum, full of interesting and thought-provoking pieces.

Giger is responsible for the design and sculpting of the creatures in the "Alien" series of films and for the cover art on Emerson, Lake & Palmer's "Brain Salad Surgery" LP, amongst other things.

Please do not take young children to this museum because there are some very frightening and/or sexually explicit pieces on display, or at least there were on my last visit in 2015 (for some strange reason, I cannot select a date this far back in the dropdown list). There is one section that even I do not want to visit because it is screened-off and comes with a warning. Given the contents that are not screened-off, I think that I would lose my lunch if I went in there.

Gruyeres is a lovely place anyway. The railway station is right next to the cheese museum, there is a chocolate museum in a nearby village (I think you need a car or taxi or bus to get there) and the main village itself has a castle and many interesting shops, cafes and bars.

Please note that this is a museum, not a hotel, so far as I am aware. It is possible that there is (now) a hotel associated with it. There are certainly other hotels in Gruyeres and nearby towns and villages.

You really get a sense of the mind of HR Giger, and its not a family-friendly mind. However, the atmosphere was amazing, and his work is well displayed.

It was fascinating to see the basis behind the creatures in Alien, but it doesn't stop there. The majority of his work was perverted and sexual in nature and could be disturbing or upsetting to children. The art here is certainly twisted and boarders nightmarish details not everyone may want to see.

The place is rather a exposition of Giger`s works than a real museum. You will find many different kind of art works some are beautiful other very strange and/or with no artistic value at all. Still, there is any real information on the author and his career. Prices are quite big even for swiss standards. So, prepare fore a strong expo, and if you are an Alien fan you will enjoy it, if no you may regret the visit.

This museum is superb! I am a huge HR Giger fan and was blown away by how comprehensive the collection is. From Alien sketches to furniture and even his own personal art collection featuring other artists, the Giger Museum is four levels of sheer dark genius. Set against the quaint village of Gruyere, it’s so interesting how the windows in the museum frame the picturesque views of the Swiss mountains and countryside. The juxtaposition of the serene Swiss landscape with the dark imagery of Giger is so compelling. You really have to experience it! Pictures are not allowed inside. As I mentioned, the museum has four levels, so there is plenty of work to see and definitely worth the trek.

For those who are fans of Predator vs aliens. This is a must see museum.
A small distance from the cheese factory and a few stairs gets you here. Lovely

H. R. Giger is a genius with very dark inner world; he is the father of the alien in "Alien". A-must for any adult. Teenagers would love it! Not suitable for little kids.

For Alien lovers, this is the ultimate creepfest. We loved it. Watch the video in German / French and learn more able the creater. He passed in 2014, but his vision for the macabre is unprecedented.
Stay for the medieval town, with a beautiful view, with deer and sheep on the hills. Hidden behind hotel Fleur, is a great view. No picnic allowed, so keep walking.

We didn't have a Swiss Pass, and the entry fee for the whole family seemed like it was a bit much, plus we weren't sure about some of the artwork being suitable for our teenagers per other reviews. Can get a sense of some of it from the outside...see pics below of what's available outside
