Maybe this hotel has changed hands but I don't recognise the place I stayed with the reviews above ...
I went ther after reading these pages - the hotel is clean and well situated in the village - which is stunning, but

It's cramped in the rooms - in ours the TV was stuck on one channel (not the end of the earth but at a room rate of 180chf, I'd expect better). And getting around the end of the double bed was a challenge

They wanted 30chf for our dog to stay ...

Food is average - both dinner and breakfast. I'm sure better quality evening food is available in the village. And stay away from the red house wine - it's ropey!

The staff were very unfriendly and brusque !
Maybe it was a bad day?

We paid a lot for our last-minute booking, all they had left was the junior suite. Large, comfortable and clean. Windows opened up to the main walkway through the village, and we had a great view of the town - very cute. It was a little confusing when we showed up - there isn't really a "front desk" so we just asked some of the waitstaff at the restaurant about checking in, and one of them just gave us the key. We didn't even give them a credit card when we checked in, but paid on our way out. Breakfast was included.

Yes, it smells like fondue downstairs, but our room didn't at all. It was a great stay, loved it (albeit pricey) and would definitely stay again.

I took my boyfriend to Switzerland for his birthday, and did alot of research in to finding a really nice place to stay and i can confirm this was! Gruyere, is an amazing place, if your into medieval architecture its the best!
The hotel was clean, and tidy the rooms were comfortable and the bathroom very nice! the breakfast was great really fresh bread and jams, yogurts and quality coffee! the only real down side was the constant smell of cheese fondue! but if you like fondue you will like it!

I have just spent two nights at the Hotel de Ville, Gruyeres and it was absolutely enchanting!
Not only is the village pure medieval magic, but the hotel is superbly appointed; right in the centre, overlooking the cobbled streets and fountain, with magnificent views of the mountains and castle.
The owner, Jean-Luc, is very friendly, and the ambience in the hotel is "home from home".
The rooms are beautifully decorated, with pine furniture, and are clean and fresh, with modern bathrooms.
I have stayed in many hotels and this is definitely one of the nicest!
