This was my summer vacation choice for the third year in a row. I was told the Schmidt family has been running the place for ages, and the personal attention given by them makes the stay all the more comfortable.
Do not miss the dinner at the hotel - usually it turns out to be excellent by any measure. The wine menu includes carefully selected wines for any palette.
On all 3 times I had the same room with a veranda overlooking the village, and I look forward for my next visit.

This is a family owned hotel and you can tell! Everybody is friendly, helpful, the hotel itself is nice, quiet and clean. Since it is a historical building, you can not expect very large rooms. But there is - even in the standard rooms - enough space for everything you need. We loved it and we will certainly come back.

Room Tip: The standard rooms are good enough I think - we didn't miss anything. You can choose from room w...

We stayed there three nights with our two little girls, 3 and 7 year-old, and we all had a great time.
The location is very close to the Caumasee and you can also enjoy a trip to the mountain with the cable car lift.
The spa area is really nice and the girls were just ecstatic about the pool.
We were halfboard, which is just fine, but I recommand to discuss the kids menu with the staff in advance so you can avoid chicken nuggets...they will do their best to suit your wishes.

Room Tip: for rooms with children I recommand the 316 or 216...bedroom with two separate rooms.

Dear guests! Thank you very much for staying with us and for taking the time writing a comment. We are very happy that you and your family enjoyed your stay. Thank you for the hint with the kids menue. You are right, kids can always choose items out of the regular menue. Best is to tell the waiter either in the morning or evening.
We hope to see you again in Flims.

This was our first trip to Switzerland and first winter trip away with our 1 year old baby.
We flew to Zurich and picked up a hire car where we made the picturesque and easy drive to Flims - took approximately 2 hours.

The village is small and pretty and the hotel is located approx 20 minutes walk up a gentle hill from the village centre, in a lovely quiet location with beautiful views down to the village and towards the mountains. There are a few shops (including a supermarket) very close by and a great little coffee shop (called Cappuccino) which served the best cappuccino we've ever tasted. If you're after apres ski bars and nightclubs, you'd need to go down to the village - this is a quiet area which suited us with our family perfectly.

The hotel offer free parking around the hotel and paid parking in the garage. We used the free parking (enough spaces for approx 12-15 cars) and had no problems finding a space, despite going out and about on some days. On one of the days the car was snowed in and the minibus driver didn't hesitate to help us get the car safely out of the space, with no problems or grumbles what-so-ever.

First impressions will not disappoint - the hotel is stunning from the outside and in excellent, clean condition. The reception area, equally impressive when you walk in. The check-in staff welcomed us and immediately came to assist with our luggage and from this point on, we realised that the staff here simply don't let you lift a finger - nothing is too much trouble.

Our room was comfortable, clean and spacious with personal touches to welcome us to the hotel, which made it really great :-) If you're a cold person, don't worry, the rooms are kept really hot, but you can open the window to cool down.

A few days into our stay we had all commented on how pristine the common areas of the hotel are kept. Carpets, mirrors, glass and furniture spotlessly clean.

All the facilities here are excellent. The indoor swimming pool was warm and perfect for our little one to splash around in. The steam room, sauna, power-showers and chillout area, all in full working order. We had everything we needed. There was even a cupboard of communual toys in the library area to keep little one occupied and we were offered complimentary baby monitors in case we wanted to put the little one to bed and come down to the bar area.

The restaurant opened at 7pm each evening but the staff were more than happy to provide a high chair and food, earlier in the bar area for our daughter each evening. We assumed they would provide baby food, but instead they asked what our baby liked to eat and they freshly prepared/cooked meals for her and all at a very modest price - we were amazed. One evening she had pan fried chicken, mashed potato and veg. Another evening she had fish fingers with unsalted chips and peas. Nothing was too much trouble. Our daughter loved it and ate everything! They wouldn't even let us move the high chair from the bar to the restaurant, insisting that they would do this so that we could relax. Incredible service.

We took the half board option for the adults in the restaurant and the food was excellent, every night. Couldn't pick one complaint - the meals were 5 courses, varied, tasty and all served up to a very high standard. There's no room service here, but I was able to take a few courses up to the room when my wife had to put our baby to bed early, no problems.
We took the advice of "plundy1" in his review and requested a window table, which we would also recommend.

One of the other aspects that we loved is that this hotel is close to the woods and close to a horse drawn carriage that will take you out to Conn. Walk 5 minutes to the woods and you can walk to a vista point that overlooks the nearby lake - with stunning views.
Book the horse drawn carriage to Conn which takes you right through the woods (approx 45 minutes) and stops at a lovely restaurant for lunch. From there you can walk 5 minutes to a viewing platform which overlooks the Rhine - again stunning views.

The free wifi throughout the hotel was also a great bonus and we found complete coverage across all the floors and even out into the car park. This was really useful for checking bank account, using Skype and checking in for our return flight home.

In summary, we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel or to stay here again.
The staff were the most helpful, welcoming and obliging staff we have experienced anywhere in the world and they really went out of their way to make our stay perfect with a genuine personal touch.

Extra tip: If you want internet coverage on your phone outside of wifi hotspots and you fly into Zurich, simply pop across the road from arrivals into the airport shopping area and visit the Swisscom mobile shop. If you present your passport and driving license you can purchase a pay as you go "Natel Easy BeFree" SIM card for 19.90 swiss francs. It's activated immediately and INCLUDES 20 swiss francs of credit. It allows you unlimited (within reason) access to the internet for a flat rate of 4 swiss francs per day and you can top up by purchasing a top up code in the supermarkets in Flims (we used COOP). The 3G signal is excellent in Flims.

A lovely hotel with grand but welcoming central spaces. The family Schmid were very friendly in this very traditional hotel, and they were more than accommodating for our very limited German. We had a lovely traditional Christmas with a champagne reception and some singing. Half board meals were always excellent, and the regular hotel bus to the slopes took the pain out of getting to the ski lifts. The town and the mountain are a very pretty part of Switzerland and worth a visit. We had amazing views from our corner room. The only issue we had to sort out was our initial disappointment with the table we were allocated for dinner / breakfast - not a problem at first, but then it mysteriously moved 6 feet nearer the buffet after the first night. However, we raised the issue with the management and we were given a very nice table from that point on - worth calling the hotel and mentioning you want a window table if you are half board.

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side have views of the Flims-Laax ski area, and on the East have views down the v...

A very comfortable hotel with a very professional staff. The spa area and swimming pool was excellent and I had it all to myself one afternoon after skiing. The food was of a very high standard and very different each evening. Transfers to the lift station were efficient . Great base for skiing in Flims. The decor wasnt particularly modern but bedroom was warm, spacious and had a great view .It created the ambience of a very large family house.

We stayed at the hotel over Christmas and were greeted on arrival as if we were repeat clients. The family Schmid are so warm and welcoming and their staff is attentive and so pleasant.
The room we were given was light, airy, spacious, comfortable, clean and modern.
The bus to the ski lifts was efficient and when we were once stuck after the bus stopped, we phoned the hotel and they sent the driver out. That's service beyond the call of duty and truly appreciated.
The swimming pool, sauna and steam room were perfect after a hard day of skiing and the kids enjoyed it so much that they preferred spending the morning there instead of the slopes (a shock to my system!).
The only blight on what was otherwise a perfect stay (apart from the lack of good snow) related to the restaurant. Whilst we were vegetarians and the hotel made a real effort to accommodate us, we felt somewhat second class citizens. Despite being on half board, we ate out of the hotel some evenings.
We were also the only non-German speaking guests at the hotel, but that was perhhaps due to the time of year as it seemed that many of the guests had been going there at Christmas for years.
So, apart from the restaurant and dinner, a perfect place to stay and a perfect hotel if you choose Flims as your destination.
