Thank you very much Cdnskier
Would be a pleasure to have you back soon.
We only took this route due to the Mont Blanc tunnel being closed. How pleased were we?
Driving in our motorhome was a tad of a worry, but it was great. The scenery was amazing, and the roads just fine.
Thank you very much MrsACM
We are glad you liked the drive over the Simplon Pass!
Hope to have you back some time soon.
Passed through on way over to Italy, plenty of snow so very scenic. Lovely views as we came back into Switzerland.
Thank you very much for the feedback :) We are glad you liked it.
Decided to travel the Pass before all snow had gone. Great decision. Very nice road up there, through the pass and down the other side.
Scenery throughout is spectacular (we were lucky enough to jag a day with glorious sunshine).
Snow on the Pass was fairly compact and wet but great for a little play. In places the compact was better than 10’ deep alongside the road but the tar was dry and sound.
Descending to the Domodosola side was evenly spectacular with the massive rocky ravines and cascading waterfalls. Even came across a group of Mountain Goats that returned to the steep rocks as we arrived.
Simplon Pass is well worth the effort. My advice would be to drive it soon after it opens after winter closure. At that time it is nothing short of spectacular and fun!
Thank you very much for your review. We love it!
Lots to see here and hike. Stay at the monastery. Be sure to drive past the big bird and down the canyon a ways. Lots there too.
Thank you very much for the nice review.
The Simplon Pass at 6,578 feet, is a high mountain pass between the Pennine Alps and the Lepontine Alps in Switzerland. So that's WHERE it is. It's symbolically important and the Simplon Tunnel built beneath the vicinity of the pass saves traffic lots of time.
But it's high above the tree line so it's bare, and the wind whistles through the mountain saddles, so it is cold and windy. The Statue of the Standing Eagle symbolizes 'Flying Free'.
Thank you for the 4* rating!
