“Clean, well-located hotel in pleasant small town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

This is a very clean, relatively traditional Swiss hotel which we booked online the day before. It is well signed, with ample parking. We stayed 1 night on our way for a day's skiing in Zermatt, which is about 40km away. Brig is a very pleasant small town with an imposing castle and a series of cobbled streets with smart shops and a wide range of bars and restaurants. The hotel is spotless and our superior double room was spacious, with two single beds pushed together. The highlight was the top-floor lounge and honesty bar, which we had to ourselves after a meal out. There is free wifi in this area, with an imposing view over the castle and gardens. The automatic light is on a short timer, and regular movement is required to keep the lights on! Breakfast is typical of smaller Swiss hotels, with good bread and coffee. All in all, a very pleasant short stay, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the castle

I don't know who rated this hotel just a 3 Star, it is far better than that!! The new we were comming and had prepared reception. They were friendly and quick to assist and the room was spotless. This is a 4 star place. our room over looked a garden and lacked nothing. It was spacious and well layed out. WiFi was included, and was offered during check-in. Car parking was convint and breakfast was great.
A perfect base to day trip to Zermatt and surounds

Room Tip: Get a room that overlooks the park

I stayed here for 3 nights recently and thought it was great. The rooms were reasonably spacious, very clean, with good views, the staff friendly and helpful. It is less than 10 minutes walk from the station, also very close to the local pool if you like to swim(or enjoy the waterslide). The breakfast was okay, no hot food, but you can eat outside on the terrace if you wish. They do have a few things I found quite unique, like just hanging your room key up at the front desk as you leave the hotel(it is not always attended),also a help yourself minibar on the top foor which you just pay for at the end. There are some fantastic walking areas close to Brig. One example is to try Fiesheralp or Bettenalp for some outstanding day walks to the glacier,or Zermatt( for the Matterhorn) is about 1 hour away by train.

We came into Brig without any reservations and found this place. At the time no one was onsite and we had to pick up a phone to connect with someone. They were very friendly and we were able to book a room for that night. We were given a password which got us into the building and access to our room...all remotely. Breakfast was not memorable but I'm sure I ate it. This place was perfect for us at the time. The rooms were a bit sparse but clean and the location is good with parking. Travels hotel for a night or two. We'd stay here again.

The Schlosshotel is a basic but nice hotel, perfectly located next to the Stockalper Castle. Our room on the 2nd floor had a beautiful view on the castle and its gardens, which was great. The room was nice and spacious (a corner room, windows on 2 sides). The bathroom was rather small, but good enough. Everything was perfectly clean.

The staff is very friendly. Free wifi is available. Breakfast was good, although some items were not refilled even when it was still pretty early. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant, but the centre of town is only one block (the gardens of the castle) away; so only a two minute walk. The trainstation is about 15 min away. On the top floor there is a nice lounge with small library and bar.

Some minor things though: the first night our room was not available and we had to stay in another hotel. Except for the apologies of the owner, we were not compensated for the inconvenience in any way; even though it had cost us a lot of extra time and hassle.

Another thing was that the staircase at night is completely dark. There is an elevator though. Last thing: our soap dispenser was empty and stayed empty during the whole stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with castle view

This hotel was conveniently located near town in the valley adjacent to and overlooking the gardens and the Stockalper Castle. The hotel room we had on the 3rd Floor was ‘very’ basic. The breakfast was home-style continental but wholesome. However, in compensation …. from the balcony, the air was fresh and clean; the surrounding mountains were spectacular (including the Eiger) and we had views of various glaciers. The hotel is located on the road to take to and over the Simplon Pass (road open only in Summer - definitely a must do for breathtaking scenery).

Room Tip: Definitely request a 3rd floor room overlooking the castle and hence mountain glaciers

We stayed in a top floor family room for one night whilst passing through the valley and accomodation was spacious with separate shower and bathroom, bunks in separate kids room, and fine view over Brig and the castle.
Weather was warm so the cool stream running through the park in front of the hotel was great for kids to splash around in and plenty of restaurants within an easy walk; further afield, not far to Saas-Fee, Zermatt and the associated attractions.
Good choice at breakfast and attentive staff are further positives.
Some downsides - odd bits of the hotel look rather weary (broken slats on one of the bunks, lack of rollbar, small window that would not open), lift has no integral door so the external doors and the wall of the shaft pass by as you travel so kids have to be kept aware) but overall positive for a short stay.
