Basic, old fashioned but clean hotel. Small meals straight from the freezer. The hotel is in the noisiest location imaginable - directly opposite the railway station & on a busy street corner. The trains run all night & pavement jet washing & road works start before dawn. Very slow service in the dining room. This hotel is rated 3* superior - IT MOST DEFINITELY IS NOT. You have been warned!

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking the station.

Stayed as part of a group with Riviera Travel.
Room faced station. Noise from trains from 5am to midnight and from drunks hanging around station all night particulary at a week end.
Bedroom unbearably hot and airless with window closed so no escape from noise. No a/c.
Balcony and chairs never cleaned.
Food uninspiring, mainly from freezer. This may have been due to budget imposed by Riviera Travel. Flies on food at breakfast time.
Certainly not a 3 star hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at back maybe quieter.

We stayed overnight in Brig at this hotel en route to St Moritz via the Glacier Express. I noticed the many not-so-nice reviews on this site about this hotel but I had a very nice time. I think it must be said that for a family-run hotel they are doing pretty well. Okay, so the decor is a bit dated and the rooms don't look anything like fancy modern hotels of large cities ~ but so what? It had charm and it felt like I was spending the night in a really old hotel with character. This hotel has been around since the turn of the century and even the author Bill Bryson stayed here whilst on his tour of Switzerland.

Location : Perfect if you have an early train to catch the next day or if you are booked for the Glacier Express. Good walking distance to local attractions and surrounding eateries.

Service : Polite and welcoming.

Value for money : This hotel doesn't claim to be a 5-star luxury hotel, and I didn't feel like they tried to represent themselves as anything but a cosy 3-star family-run business. We got a very good sized heated room with great views from our balcony. I love trains so it was a joy to just look at trains pull in and out of the station. Our beds were very comfortable with a good firm mattress ~ I slept well. Good sized bathroom with walk-in shower (good water pressure). TV + wifi available. Did not see a minibar. Ample closet space (not that we used any of it). Standard European buffet breakfast with cold meats, cheese, fruit juices, coffee + tea, cereals, fresh fruits, yoghurt. and baked goods. I kinda have a soft spot for Victorian style rooms, and the breakfast salon oozes this charm.

Everything in Switzerland is fairly expensive, so if you are a practical traveller who isn't too fussed with things like "ambience" and "room decor" .... than this hotel is more than suitable.

Ideal for the station. Limited private parking. Early closing bar has great atmosphere in and out. On busy corner. Food local with good variety. Rooms are dull not helped by minimal wattage light bulbs
Train enthusiasts ask for a room at the front. For a quiet room ask for a back bedroom - tend to be gloomy as well as quieter.

This hotel was a disappointment - rooms were OK and beds comfortable but no atmosphere, lino on the stairs and nowhere to gather with friends apart from the expensive impersonal public bar. There is a residents' dining room which had to be vacated straight after the (not bad) evening meal. No chef in the morning though so cold buffet breakfast with tinned fruit salad, oats (couldn't call it muesli) or cornflakes, bowl of under-ripe fruit and some reasonable cold meats & cheese. Decoration of public rooms and bedrooms was drab and unwelcoming - such a contrast to other 3* Swiss hotels we stayed in on this trip.

Great situation, opposite station. Despite my room facing the station it was not noisy.
Nice views of the mountains.
The bar and restaurant are nice and the staff could not be more friendly and helpful.

Great find, convenient for Station - 50 yards, good breakfast, friendly staff, the owner is very helpful - late arrival no problem and checked in for my flight home using his computer, would thoroughly recommend.
