“Beautiful, charming and friendly hotel. I wish we had stayed longer!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2007

We flew into Zurich, but our destination was the Dolomites. We were looking for a nice hotel not too far from the airport, on the way to Cortina. Our travel agent recommended the Grand Hotel Quellenhof in Bad Ragaz. Where??? We had never heard of the hotel OR the town. But she's never let us down, so we agreed.

It was snowing when we landed in Zurich, but our rented Audi had snow tires, and off we went. We must have missed a turn, because instead of driving there on the motorway, we wound up on a two-lane road alonog the lake. It was so beautiful, and there was hardly any traffic. It took a little longer, but we found the hotel easily.

And what a find! The Grand Hotel Quellenhof is just plain gorgeous. We were greeted warmly as we drove up and were whisked into the impressive lobby. A few minutes later we were in our room, a spacious Jr. Suite with a balcony overlooking the snow-filled grounds. A feeling of peace settled over us, and we were ready to stay forever.

Everyrthing about the room was perfect. Lots of closet space and drawers and shelves. One could bring all their clothes and stay for a month! The bed was confy and the piilows were fluffy. The bathroom was amazing . . . three rooms really . . . and it even had a flatscreen TV. What a treat! Unfortunately, we had only booked one night. Big mistake. This place is worth a lot more time.

The Grand Hotel Quellenhof is part of a complex that includes the Grand Hotel Bad Ragaz, a 4-star hotel that is soon to be upgraded to 5-stars. There are 5 restaurants. We only had time to sample two of them: Olives and the Abtestube. They were both wonderful, but the gourmet restaurant Abtestube was really special. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, without a hint of stuffiness or pretension -- but the food is beautfully prepared and elegantly presented. We ordered the fixed price dinner with a bottle of local wine, and every mouthful was delicious!

Earlier in the day, we had the pleasure of visitng the spa. We had booked massages, to ease the aches an pains of a transatlantic flight in coach class. The massages didn't disappoint. The spa is an oasis of calm and best of all, no one tried to sell us anything!

For those of us who prefer to travel without a laptop, there are three complimentary internet points throughout the property. Admittedly, we were there in the off-season, but I never had to wait to check my email. That was very nice.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable experience at the Grand Hotel Quellenhof. I highly recommend this hotel, and I can't wait to return!

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Quellenhof for (unfortunately) only 2 nights as we were on a 3 week tour of Switzerland (we booked our hotels as we traveled). If only we'd known what a great place it was beforehand; we would have planned accordingly and booked it for much longer!

Firstly; we arrived at the hotel at night and it was just an amazing approach with the way the hotel was lit up. Our original fear was that the hotel and its staff may be a bit snobby (we arrived via the train and carrying our backpacks); but I don't think their service could have been any better even if we would have pulled up in a chauffeured Bentley and were dressed to the 9's. In our room were tasty sweets, a bottle of local liqueur, and a HUGE bowl of fruit. Our "Chef of Reception" (Ronny) was simply awesome.

Secondly; the room was great! We were in a 4th floor junior suite with balcony overlooking the park in front of the hotel. In our room were tasty sweets, a bottle of local liqueur, and a HUGE bowl of fruit. The bed was king sized (although 2 twins positioned together which is more common than not in EU) with fantastic linens; the balcony was cute in that Paris sort of way; and the bathroom had a deep soaking tub, separate shower and WC, and a great little TV in the wall. About 10 minutes after getting into the room, our butler (Andy), brought us champagne and even more sweets.

Finally; the spa is simply to die for and a reason that I want to return. It would take me too much space to go through all the things that are fabulous about it, but suffice it to say that it is the first time in years that I have actually relaxed and not thought about my stressful worklife (and we're all thriving for a better worklife balance).

As my title reveals; I WILL return probably over and over again.

Note: I am a Leader's Club member and booked my hotel directly through their site (lhw.com), but the hotel does have a web site from where you can book your rooms directly.

  • Liked — The service, room, and spa
  • Disliked — The restaurant requires men to wear a jacket (although loaners are available)
