“Lodge Xmas Lunch”
Reviewed December 16, 2012

lovely grounds and setting. Function room nicely decorated creating a good atmosphere. Service was excellent and so was the food a 3 course lunch presented well and the roast beef was beautiful (could have done with being hotter), but a great day.

Stayed here the night of a wedding. Lovely venue and wedding rooms and food amazing.........but a few things disappointed. I asked for early check in, they wanted extra £20. After a couple of emails and me pointing out a lot of money being spent surely asking for just an hour earlier surely couldn't be too much to ask . Thankfully this request was met and it was nice not having to change in the gym area as was suggested !!! Went to bar for lunch service very slow. Food ok but £7 for a sandwich steep. Room was lovely clean and bright. BAD LOCATION. I requested a single room as came without my family and this was in a building separate from hotel at edge of car park ! (Maybe a converted parking attendants hut) ! Was ok until hotel guests/guests from other functions left as they all had to go past this out building !!!!!! The noise was phenomenal people talking loudly laughing shouting car music blaring music blaring from a tribute act and i mean LOUD no chance of any sleep until all guests had gone which was about 2am !!!!!! Surely the hotel should have a notice to have consideration for other guests !!! Obviously not !! No one asked on leaving if room etc was ok and to be honest I was so exhausted I couldn't be bothered to complain. Breakfast was an eye opener to say the least, hotel guests at breakfast in their pyjamas and dressing gowns !!!!!! Eh hello etiquette it's a four star hotel not a travel lodge !!!!! Breakfast however was awesome apart from guests walking around in pjs with no bra on !!! Made me feel quite queasy
Surely there is a dress code for attire at breakfast ????? I've stayed in hundreds of top hotels and NEVER seen pjs at breakfast.

Stayed a couple of nights for a wedding, the room was nice and a reasonable size, the bathroom was very nice and tiles throughout. I woud have expected a trouser press, bath robes, and a hair dryer in a 4 star hotel but this room didn't have any of that. I didn't ask for one but have stayed in other quality hotels where all this was provided.

We were in a room above one of the function rooms and there was a party which went on until 1.30am with very oud music that could be heard in the room quite clearly.

Overall an ok stay but just left feeling a little disappointed for the £145 per night. If I attend another event in Orsett Hall I will be staying somewhere else.

Room Tip: The hotel has a Gym and Spa but doesn't have a pool!

This is the third time that we've stayed here, coinciding with an evening event at the venue. The room was again excellent. Rooms are very well appointed and tastefully decorated, the public areas are also first class.

For us, attending an event in one of the function rooms, it was excellent.

However, if we were looking for somewhere for a quiet night, I'm not sure the number of people attending events in the five function rooms would have been to our taste.

Room Tip: All of the rooms that we've been allocated are excellent.

A bit perplex about this hotel. It seems that you have the ingredients for a very good time (nice location, good room, historical building, ...) but something is missing to move from good to excellent.
My room was outside of the main building, a very large room with a private garden, good bed, good shower, nice tv, ... But a bit freezing inside. Isolation was a bit weak...
The breakfast was average and something is missing in the breakfast room to make it warm and cosy.
The fitness room is really nice, well equipped. A pity that the wifi does not work there.
Employees were very friendly and the service was good.

A few efforts on the decoration would help to make the place a bit more unique

My wife and I got married here in August 2012 and the day could not have been more perfect.
From the first meeting almost 18 months before the big day to the morning after the wedding, nothing was too much trouble and the entire team at Orsett Hall (especially Michelle and Sophie in the Weddings team and Leo from the catering team) were wonderful.
The food was absolutely delicious and everyone was catered for, including children and infants.
The grounds were beautiful and very well kept, and we were lucky that ours was the only function on the day so we had the freedom to walk around the entire hotel to have our photos taken.
The rooms (function suites and bedrooms) were beautifully clean and well laid-out although bedrooms were a little pricey.
There is ample free parking (although at busy periods this may be on grass) and a spa onsite (we didn't visit this as they were fully booked).
Full English breakfast was available the following morning and was cooked to order.
Overall, we are extremely grateful to all the staff that made our big day so successful and special. Highly recommended.

This is a quaint little hotel in Orsett, Essex, UK. They are mainly geared for weddings, parties, and small business conferences but are able to give excellent attention to your standard visitor.

The front desk personnel are some of the best we have ever had anywhere in the world. They were always very friendly and totally helpful to any of our needs. We require a wheelchair accessible room and they were able to accommodate us. The room is very good and easy to get around. The bed was very comfortable and - most important - the roll in shower had very good, hot water.

From wear, twelve years of heavy use, numerous trips around the world and major intercontinental trips each year, my lovely wife's wheelchair finally wore out [at least one foot piece that we could not fix or replace from the UK] and we purchased a new wheelchair while staying at the hotel. The hotel staff went way beyond the call of duty in taking delivery of the new wheelchair, getting it up to our room, offering to help set it up, and disposing of the boxes.

The restaurant staff is as good as the front desk personnel. To start with, we arrived on our first day after they were through offering breakfast but they happily brought out danish, coffee, and tea for us and our friends who were meeting us at the hotel. We enjoyed breakfast there everyday. After our first breakfast, they even reserved a table and set it up just for us to accommodate my wife's wheelchair. We enjoyed room service for lunch one day and it was very good. Our dining experience was, also, excellent except that their French Onion Soup is anything but that.

We will definitely be staying here, again, the next time that we visit our good friends in the UK.
