“A nice trip”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

The hotel Altes Gymnasium is a wonderfull hotel in the small town of Husum. We stayed there for two days on a business trip. We booked a comfort double room which was located on the second floor which used to be the school directors room. The hotel is beautifully restored. The room was spacious and very clean and because of the historical features, tailored to its previous function. The bathroom was spacious and more then enough clean towels. Its wellness facility is also perfect. Breakfast offered more then enough choices and was very good, way beyond the already high standards common for Germany. The staff at the frontdesk and breakfast restaurant was very friendly and professional. One small drawback, the restaurant opens only a few days per week so we had to have dinner at the harbor downtown Husum, which is only a few minutes walk from the hotel. To summarize, a wonderfull experience and we will recommend this hotel to all travelers coming to Husum, looking for a hotel with an nice atmosphere. For all future trips to Husum, it will be our first choice.

Room Tip: Just select this hotel.

This is a beautifully restored building, the rooms are very comfortable and practically "noiseless".
Your sleep will not be disturbed by outside noises; the mattresses are not as soft as some would like (i.e., my wife) but the hotel team quickly solved the problem with a soft mattress cover. The entire staff is friendly, helpful and polite - we've never had better treatment in any other hotel anywhere in the world! The wellness area is quite good, and big enough that you don't feel crowded when you are working out or swimming. The food is superb - the wine as well, and you are not looked down at when you order a beer instead of wine with your meal. All in all, a hotel where one really feels "at home" and will return again and again. For me as a non-smoker, the atmosphere was clean and pure everywhere.

Room Tip: In winter, the rooms on the north side have absolutely no sun at all for those who love a sunny ambi...

Stayed for two nights on business. Hotel was interesting and well looked after. Bedrooms quiet and exquisitely furnished. Dinner was excellent. Breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I've seen. All in all a lovely hotel. Took a walk down to the harbour in the evening. quite picturesque with some nice bars and restaurants.

A very classic and romantic hotel in the small town of Husum, a renovated schoolhouse with a relaxing atmosphere, the staff was excellent. If visiting northern Germany, this is a wonderful stop and the rooms in the original part of the build ing were great. A pool in the style of the Roman baths add to the romance of the place....highly recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the main building.

Have been to Husum several times on business and stayed at other hotels but came back to this one.

The extra cost of the Altes Gymnasium is well worth it and I brought my wife with me this week as knew she would love the place and especially the wellness facilities, which are a godsend after day in meetings, etc.

Only down side is that internet access depends on which room you are in and the meals are a little overpriced though good quality but the restaurant staff look as though they wuld rather be anywhere else, though generally attentive.

The town itself is a relatively quiet locatiion but pretty, clean and plenty of restaurants. shops, etc.

Housekeeping and reception staff are very helpful and nothing seems to be too much trouble.

Well worth the visit

By choosing this hotel we expected an old-fashioned romantic hotel. What we didn't expect was that there is a new standard conference hotel build just next to it. So there is a constant mixture of the old and very loverly parts on the one hand and the conference facilities on the other hand. Breakfast is served in the "Wintergarten" which looks like the cantine of a modern hospital. So it is difficult to enjoy the old charming parts of the hotel.

The old-rooms are very nice. Negative was only the comfort of the bed which were way to outworn with regards to the price you pay for the hotel.
