My husband and I stayed here for one night only. We had been to Italy and on our way back to get to Amsterdam, we stayed in several hotels en-route and this was unfortunately one of them.
On arrival the front door was locked and the owner (who we didn't know that at the time) was just about to leave on his motorbike and he took us back inside and gave us our room key and left us.
Taking the stairs to our room, we noticed firstly how dirty it was and secondly the laminated notices on some of the room doors saying that the credit card machine was not working and they were very sorry. When we got to our room there was no notice on our door so we assumed it was just for the people whose doors had them pinned to.
Our room was absolutely horrible. The TV didn't work and the sofa was well and truly used. The bedding was clean but the overall appearance of the room was shabby. As for the very small bathroom, it was awful.
We ate in the restaurant in the evening. The manager who had booked us in on arrival seemed to be the chef too. Although he made a meal for me at my request (this was not on the menu as I didn't like anything else on it), it did taste nice and my husband enjoyed his too, it was not the greatest but fairly reasonably priced. Our meals and drinks were put on our bill.
The next morning we had breakfast, which was adequate but not outstanding. We then got our things together to leave and lo and behold the credit machine was NOT working. The girl said it was broken. We asked her to contact the manager to get it sorted as surely if it was broken the day before, they should have had someone in to repair it. Anyway, she tried again and said she needed a code and only the manager knew it. We asked her to ring him to get the code. We could here her on the phone and it all sounded false. She then came back to us and tried again and still, it did not work.
My husband then had to pay in cash. We were absolutely furious. I would think that because they have laminated notices on doors explaining the machine is broken, means it has never worked and they just want the cash. The fact that we had booked this on line via Booking.com, (who took our credit card details) should have informed us that this place doesn't take cards. So why they have to have our card details in the first place is beyond me.
Would we go back. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER.
