I've been coming back here every year for the past four years. There are two things that bring me back. Firstly, there is the surf school. Tim Jones and his team know surfing. And they know how to improve peoples surfing - whatever your standard. I'm sure it would take years ,or sheer luck, to find some of the gems of information that they pass on. Things that work - that help you get out back, that help you catch more waves and ride them better.

Secondly, there is Famara itself and the accommodation provided there by the surf school. It's a beautiful, white washed, fishing village with just enough bars and restaurants to provide entertainment without losing the soul of the place. It's also in one of the most stunning settings at the foot of some of the most amazing headland you'll see anywhere.

Tim Jones is a true ambassador of the sport. His passion for the sport is reflected in the way, he teaches and inspires his students to surf. Having observed surf schools in Bali, Hawaii, France and California, I honestly believe that he is the best surf teacher, I have ever seen. No one get their students, up and riding a wave as quick as he does. Apart from his extraordinary ability to teach people to surf. I also appreciate his relentless focus on keeping your first surfing experience safe. After all these years, I still protect my head when popping up to the surface to prevent getting hit by my own board after a wipe out. His lunch break stories about the history of surfing, the dynamics of surf breaks and surf board designs are classic and interesting for anyone who wants to now a bit more about surfing in general. This is a surf school which truly offers you value for money. No doubt about it.

Was out there with Tim and the guys for my 50th birthday. This is the third time we've been out to the school over the last three years and it was still as brilliant as ever. They teach not only about how to surf, but about safety, waves, tides, different kinds of breaks and a whole host of other surfing knowledge. The first year we went, Tim and guys, talked about how to cover you're head, and it was one of the best lessons I ever learned. The technique saved my head in a wipeout. Instead I got a massive bruise which covered the entire of my upper arm, just two weeks before our last trip to Famara. Tim also designed my first custom board (made by Adrian Phillips -Fluid Juice), and it's fab. It's a joy to experience the fun and friendship at the school, and it's an experience we will keep on repeating!

This is the third time I have been to see Tim and Surf School Lanzarote and I am always left looking forward to the next chance to go back.

I've learn't a huge amount coming to the school and had a great deal of fun with excellent instructors and fellow course participants alike. The approach the school takes to surf tuition is first class - making you feel safe and informed with the high quality beach talks whilst at the same time pushing the limits of your surfing with strong encouragement and support from the team to take your enjoyment (and surfing to the next level). If you really want to learn to surf, I can't recommend this enough.

This time I stayed in local accomodation in Famara, and if you are keen to get the most out of your surf trip and like the "quiet" life then I'd strongly recommend Famara. Famara itself is quite and beautiful and there are enough restaurants to stay interesting. Of course, "busy" resorts like Puerta del Carman are a bus ride or hire car trip away if you want something more.
