The Alte Thorschenke in Cochem transports you back in time. Parts of the hotel date from the 1300's. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Our bed was a semi-canopy bed of wood painted with fairy-tale like scenes. The breakfast is a delight, served in a large hunting lodge-themed room. Delicious breads, meats, cheeses, yogurts, juice, eggs and breakfast meat on a huge buffet table get your day off to a great start. The location is excellent. You can walk the charming streets, find small cafes for dinner, and the bakery just across from the hotel tempts you with all sorts of glorious breads and pastries. Our room overlooked a small street that could be noisy at night, but overall we were very pleased and would stay there again.

If you're looking for the Ritz Carlton or even a Best Western, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for an historic hotel in the heart of the old town, with an easy walk to shops, restaurants and wine stores, this is definitely the place for you. The breakfast was very good with a wide selection. The rooms have character and, for those of us who care, the water pressure and hot shower were wonderful. The staff was friendly and accomodating and very helpful with directions to the Schloss and other points of interest. Recommended.

We loved this old hotel in a fantastic location. It is so old and I believe part of the old city wall that some of the floors are slanted in some of the rooms, which only adds to the charm of transporting you back in time. It seems to fit with the quaintness of the town........If you want modern hotel luxury, this is not the place for you, if you want charm and a unique experience with a caring staff and easy access to the town....this is the place you might want to try............we will go back.....during non tourist season when the town is less crowded, and the weather is cooler.

As a group of ten friends we stayed for 3 nights for the Cochem winefest. The hotel was perfectly located with fantastic views and in the very centre of Cochem. It was a little expensive but well worth the money and I wouldn't hesitate to book it again. The rooms were typically plain but very clean and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was ok and the staff were lovely.

The hotel is old, not particularly renovated. Hotel staff is excellent, but there is only so much they can do. It was a hot day and I asked for a fan and eventually received one, as the third-floor room was like a sauna. The fan was not particularly strong, but every little bit helped. The bathroom was equipped with exactly half a roll of toilet paper for two people, and the light over the bathroom mirror was broken. There was a lot of noise from the street, even though this was supposedly the quiet side of the hotel. There was also a freight train (!) that rumbled past not far from the hotel.
The restaurant was very good but the cook decided to quit early, so when our party of four walked in at 8:50 pm we were informed that the kitchen was closed, even though closing time was 9pm -- and we had to argue the kitchen back open again.
The place has a lot of charm but is lacking in comforts that you would expect for EUR99 per room per night.

Room Tip: Really impossible in a centrally located hotel - apparently there is noise from all sides. In hot...

I have been a lot to this hotel because both the location as the nature *buikld in a ancient city gate) is quite special. The room (the Turner suite) was fine and the availability of a fridger was quite useful. Next morning(s) during breakfast things were okay unitl I noticed that the breakfast food cheese sausages etc were placed with out any cover on the breakfast table with flies walking over the cheese etc. This was really putting. A bit more attention for food hygiene would be in place.

I wanted to check a box between average and very good. The hotel itself is lovely -- in that creeky old, built in 1332 way -- but no, it doesn't offer AC (but it does have windows and a lovely breeze off the Moselle), and it doesn't have an elevator, but the stairs wind and divert and your walk to your room, though long, is incredibly interesting. It is not a spa or a fancy place at all -- but it is thick with character. I loved the location -- right in the middle of activity both in the windy streets and along the river with its many winestubes and cafes. Breakfast was simple -- but we eat light for breakfast so it didn't matter. The bottom line -- you get a lot of character, comfy beds with luscious comforters and pillows, for a not-bad-at-all price. I'd recommend this place anytime.
