There is an extra charge to visit the crypts but it is well worth it. Also go all the way to the top, for an overview of the cathedral. To get a good view of the dome, walk around the back of the cathedral.

Welcome to one of the largest churches in Germany. It contains the tombs of eight German emperors and kings. In 1981, the church was added to the UNESCO list of “ World Cultural Heritage.

A lot of history from this area and cathedral. It is a must to walk down into the crypt and see the kings and emperors buried down there. Very impressive and a must see.

This is a must place to visit during your stay in the Heidelberg area. Also, don't miss to walk down town along Maximilian Street and see the gate tower. You can also walk through the park in the back of the cathedral down to the Rhine river. The "Alter Hammer Biergarten" is right at the Rhine river. Enjoy the view and the atmosphere with homemade lemonade.

We sat for a while in the grounds before we entered the cathedral, a really peaceful place to sit. The cathedral itself was rather plain, but a walkway to the side of it takes you up above the town and the views are just spectacular.
