Ineresting church in is not as ornate as other churchs, but large. There are fresco around the higher inside walks. The outside and grounds are more interesting then the inside. If you happen to be i Speyer on sunday you can hear the bells ringing .

Awe-inspiring cathedral; linger and enjoy the stained glass windows; I hadn't thought through what it would mean that 1000-year-old cathedrals don't have restroom facilities; be prepared for that; did have very nice docents and a lovely gift shop.

The Speyer Cathedral is almost 1000 years old and a must-see when visiting this part of Germany. This is the largest Romanesque cathedral of the world still standing and a UNESCO world heritage site. While its interior is more simple than expected, it is still very impressive in its simplicity. There are many different details to observe, like organs, stained glass windows or sculptures.
The cathedral is important also because it is the most significant royal burial site in Germany. A number of kings were buried here between the 11th and 14th century. We have visited the crypt and found it very peaceful. Certainly worth the 3,50€ entrance fee (visiting the cathedral itself is free). While the crypt and the graves are not spectacular, it felt like a very special place.
We skipped climbing the tower (costs extra 6 euros), but I imagine that it provides a nice view of the city from above.
