Stop by and see the history of wine making in the area, and some of the more famous vintages. Everything in Bernkastel is fantastic and this fits right in.

A glass of wine is included in the price of admission to see the museum and is a welcome accompaniment as you tour the various audio visual demonstrations that they have set up.
Interesting and worth a visit.

We had a wine tasting included as an excursion by our Rhine-Moselle river cruiseline. The museum is an easy walk across the river in Kues not far from the bridge. Go to the roundabout, take a right and you're there. You'll see the facility behind the wrought iron fencing and gates and a nice patio with tables for enjoying your favorite glass of wine.
The wine tasting was held at Vinothek adjacent to the museum. We were handed an empty wine glass and a large bread pretzel at the entrance and led down into the cellar where 120 different regional wines from a wide array of vineyards and wine-makers awaited us.
Bottles are stacked in bins with an in-depth description on a large sign over the bin with a number on it. Scattered along the various bins are coolers where you simply reach in and grab a chilled bottle with the corresponding numbered cork. You pour a sip of your choosing, return the bottle to the cooler, and taste. There are stations on oak barrels where water is available to pour into your glass, swish, and pour out to cleanse your glass between tastings. The pretzel is a nice pallate cleanser.
This was completely undirected and unscripted. We were totally on our own except for the helpful manager who introduced himself and answered any questions we had. Otherwise, he was completely unobtrusive.
The cellar is extensive and divided among dry, semi-dry and sweet whites and a section for local reds in the back so you can linger for quite a while. You can buy any of the wines you like back upstairs when your tasting is complete.
We were quite pleased with the atmosphere and experience and would highly recommend it to anyone who truly enjoys wine. It is an opportunity to easily sample the range of Moselle Valley product - some of the best whites in the world - in a delightfully authentic environement. One way or another, you'll definitely leave with a smile on your face...

Very interesting, and informative. There are a number of places to try local wines but in BernKastle is the easiest to find. All the local growers, of which there are many are represented in the town and their wines are easy to drink and buy.

The festival was filled with wonderful wines to taste, live music in several areas and great foods. Stay for the firework show in the evening on Saturday night, it is AMAZING! Overall a fun day and evening, plenty to do for all ages, across the Mosel on the other side of the festival is a carnival with rides for children.
