Rhine Hotel Zur Loreley
Ranked #4 of 14 Hotels in Sankt Goar
Reviewed September 7, 2009

We stayed three nights, took a Rhine River boat trip, visited the local castles, and enjoyed the local color in historic and beautiful St Goar, and the neighboring villages. This is a small hotel, and really captures the local atmosphere. The rooms were excellent: clean, comfortable, roomy, and great value for the price. The breakfasts were in the best tradition of a German breakfast feast, with fresh crisp rolls, all kinds of jam, boiled eggs, sliced cold cuts, multiple fruits coffee, and anything else you might want. You served yourself, and ate all you wanted. We ate a number of meals at the restaurant which serves great food in the German tradition, generous portions, and great value for the money. In short, I don't think you'll find a better deal, or any better atmosphere, anywhere on the Rhine. Guests from Asheville NC

My fiance' and I stayed at the Hotel Zur Loreley in mid-May. We were very encourged and confident about the hotel due to the stellar Tripadvisor reviews. We were not disappointed!

We arrived in town and we were hoping the hotel wasn't too far away- it wasn't. A quick five minute walk from the train station and we were in the hotel door. We were pleasantly greeted when we checked in, a nice young man helped Angela with her bags, and off we went to the room. The proprietor, Sebastian, sent me an e-mail several days before we arrived and said he had "a surprise" for us. We were hoping this wouldn't be a bad thing! We walked up three flights of stairs on the side of the building, and what do you know, he had set us up with the hotel's premium apartment suite! We walked in, and....kept on walking and walking! Three spotlessly clean bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room, kitchen, and beautiful patio overlooking Rheinfel's castle later, we couldn't believe our luck! Everything was tidy and immaculate. Perfectly organized and homey. The view from the deck to the castle was breathtaking.

The other service that we Zur Loreley offers that we can't say enough about is their outstanding restaurant...easily the best we tried in the middle Rhine area of Germany! Wonderful traditional German food- try the Hawaiian schnitzel if you get a chance.

Great staff, great property, magical town.

I booked this hotel in February after reading all the great reviews online. While it was very clean and comfortable and a great value, we were a little disconcerted that the hotel was "closed" while we were there. After breakfast, the hotel shut down and we were given a key to the front door (similar to a b&b) to come and go. As a result, we were unable to eat lunch or dinner there. The room was very new and modern but in typical European fashion, it was extremely small.

I used St. Goar as a base for exploring the Rhine region, and I was very happy with this hotel. I would definitely recommend it to friends and would come here if I visited in the future.

The room was clean, seemed to be newly renovated and the price was extremely reasonable. The location was excellent, a 5 minute walk to the train station and walk across the street, and you had a nice view of the Rhine River.

The hotel owner has a restaurant which is excellent at dinner time. However, breakfast was only cold items, such as bread, cold cuts, cheese and cereal.

Our family of 3 stayed at a studio apartment for 2 nights. Overall I think it provides a very good value. The studio is very big, it's just that the sitting/living/sleeping area is one big room, with a small kitchen (with a fridge and sink) in another room, and an entry area and a separate bathroom.

Everything seems very new, and the apartments are located in an alley way near the restaurant that the family runs.

We also dined at the restaurant for our stay and their food is tasty and fairly priced.

Overall even in June there are not many English-speaking tourists there, so be prepared to dust off some rusty German to get by.

We got a parking permit at the hotel, and parked in the road next to the Rhine. It's not far, but I would advise not lugging all the luggages to the apartment (just take what you need), as there are steps and the apartments don't have elevator.

Our family of 5 stayed in their 3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment. Both baths are roomy. There is a full sized kitchen, a large living room and a balcony. From the kitchen, both baths and the balcony, one can see Reinfels castle. From the living room one can see the Rhine and the other castle. The apartment was so big that a family could truly live there. The one draw back: 4th floor, no lift. It was quite a chore to get the luggage up the spiral staircase.

We seemed to be the only Americans staying there. The town is adorable and is a nice base for Rhine exploration. We never had trouble finding a close space for our vehicle. There are lots of restaurants just steps away from the hotel.
