My brother and I always stay at the Hotel Hauser in St Goar when we travel to the Rhine and when returning from Italy visiting relatives. Frau Velich has always been a wonderful person and very helpful in our travels. We always request a balcony room facing the Rhine. It is usually rooms on the 1st Floor. We have had the corner room , the center room and the left room as you face the Hotel.
The staff of the Hotel Hauser are always caring about their guests and will do anything in their power to make your stay one you will remember. This last year, our German friends surprised us and met us upon arrival in Frankfurt and traveled with us to St Goar and stayed in the same hotel as we did. Their room was the center foom and our room was on the corner. The view from the corner room (facing the hotel is on the right) shows you a view of the side park in front of the church and the view of the Rhine. Very enjoyable and very bright with all the windows in the room. Especially in the morning and a wonderful view at night. But all of the rooms in the front of the hotel have a wonderful view of the Rhine.
We eat at the hotel restaurant at night most of the time. In the morning, as part of your room price you have a wonderful cold cuts breakfast, with baloney, ham, salami, selection of breads, white, brown and other, coffee or tea and of course juice. A very good hardy breakfast. At night we ordered from the menu, and it is very favorable in price and the helpings are grand. Never went away hungry from not eating enough. Our first meal when we arrive at the Hotel Hauser is always schnitzel and potatoes. Love it.
We stayed here in March and in April 2011.

We arrived in St. Goar late. The manager said she had no rooms but actually came out to the street to call down and say she had her nights' confused and a room was available. Up several flights of stairs, it was actually a 2-room suite she'd made available to us (bath in the middle). I checked at two other hotels 'up the way', each of which was more expensive by 10-12 Euro and each with the same daunting 3-flights (or more) up to the room that, with a large suitcase, i knew would NOT please my husband :-).
Turns out, he was pleased with the quiet comfortable room, I with the bathTUB, and both of us with the friendly hosts and the excellent breakfast the next morning. Considering that this was one of the cheaper hotels we stayed at this week in Germany, it was a great value-for-money. It was mentioned in 'Rick Steves' who, I feel, does it justice in his write up. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in a suite, I think the number might have been in the 400's (414?)? We selected the q...

We arrived late in St. Goar and found Hauser just down from the train station. Two sweet old ladies seem to run the hotel. The room was very clean and cozy with a spectacular view of the Rhine. A church just across the way and two castles from our private balcony. Breakfast is also included (bread, meat, cheese, coffee, tea, and orange juice, all in abundance).

TIP: They are more then happy if you make a sandwich and take any leftovers with you. We packed a lunch, with a water bottle, and hike up to the nearby Raesfeld Castle and had lunch on the high turret. Wonderful! At €30/night/person you really can't beat the value.

TIP: The restaurant just across the parking lot serves an excellent dinner. The wine from the local area is also very good.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Rhine if you can.

I was first impressed dealing with Marianne via e-mail to book the room. She made everything easy, and her English was very good. When we stepped off the train, after a long day of traveling from Paris, we thought we would get our bearings by stepping over to the main road. When we go halfway there, we realized that the hotel was right in front of us. If we had had skates, we would not have been able to stop in time! I didn't meet Marianne right away, when we arrived, but Petra took care of us very well. Our room felt very spacious, because of those high ceilings, and the bathroom was very compact, but served our needs. I loved the firm mattress, but would have liked thicker pillows. It felt a little like grandma's house, where things were old, but still worked. The view of the Rhine was wonderful. It was everything a tired traveler needed after a long day! I wish we had has longer to stay in the area, especially since it rained on the day we decided to explore the castle. But in the end everything worked out very well, even the hike to the castle in the rain.

The room was nothing to shout about as it was quite old but still it was decent and comfortable. there's a balcony with a great view.

breakfast was good and the restaurant serves good value meals for lunch and dinner! in fact, we discovered that the restaurant of hotel hauser was one of the more popular restaurants here in St Goar. on the first nite we arrived, we walked around St Goar looking for dinner and ended up back at our hotel! it was probably the one with most patrons ;p ended up eating dinner there for both the nights that we stayed.

st goar is a very small town and the hotel is located right at it's centre. in front on the rail station. and the embarkation points for the boat rides was right in front of it. and if you want to take the horse ride up to the castle, it's also right outside the hotel.

so it's really very very convenient!

So, we found it a little difficult to stay in some of the more popular cities around the rhein and thus looked for smaller towns to stay in. We found Sankt Goar. More specifically we found Hotel Hauser. We stay 2 nights so we could take a day and travel up the rhein by boat.

Marienne was lovely and helped us find the things we needed, even took the time to explain the boat timetables to us. We asked for, and got, a room overlooking the river. The view was incredible. The room included a w/c with shower... that wasn't so incredible. Still, it was a decent sleep and a not bad stay. The room was plenty roomy and the town itself was quaint.

If you're staying in St. Goar, this is a great place to stay for the money.

The hotel is perhaps old fashioned, but very cozy. The breakfast was generous, the climate was hospitable and in our room we found confortable beds, much space and a wonderful view to the Rhine. No TV, true, neither modern things, but who cares?
