Lovely area, we should have done more research and not visited in winter months (jan-feb)...or maybe we shouldn't have gotten married 20 years ago in jan! Anyway, the river boats don't run very often, the shops are mostly all closed and even the rheinfels castle is closed. Like the title says, the hotel is very nice. Top class service but I was surprised when I asked for a brochure on the castle (my only introduction to the castle since it was closed) they wanted 1.5 euro...as if the 300 euro spent on a nice room and dinner shouldn't cover it. Gave me a chance to use the hotel wi-fi to do some research on the castle.

We have been traveling in Europe for 40 years and this was one of our great experiences. The Hotel is in a converted old castle perched on a hill above the Rhine. The views from our room and from the dining room were incredible. The staff was polite and helpful however there were no bellmen to help with the luggage. The room was large but not air conditioned. No matter-we had a balcony overlooking the Rhine. The breakfast was included and was excellent. Insist on a table by the window. Free WiFi in the public rooms. Very expensive ( about 300 Euros/night) but how many times in your life will you get to stay in a castle?

We stayed at this hotel whilst driving down through Germany. It is a spectacular location with great views of the Rhine, in a scenic, interesting and vibrant part of Germany. It is expensive of course, but in my view worth it. I wish we could have stayed longer to really enjoy it. When we arrived, there was a medieval looking evening going on in the courtyard, open to all. There were places to eat dinner there, and it seemed a shame we had booked to eat down in the town.
The room we had was a suite, with 4 of us needing to be accomodated. It had a balcony looking down onto the Rhine and the town of Sankt Goar below. The room was tidy and fresh. The only thing lacking was air conditioning, so we did have to open windows to get a through draft as it was hot. This was only possible with the bathroom door open. With open windows, we could hear the trains, but they were not overly intrusive...Perhaps because our room was in a separate block over a bridge across the road up. Air conditioning apart, this place is a real treat. The service was excellent.

Lovely setting on the Rhine, large rooms but they were very hot- it was a bit of a heatwave when we were there! Opening the windows helped but the noise from the trains all night (every 3 minutes!) long kept us awake! Not the hotels fault, but it really needs to address this-maybe an electric fan in the room? We spoke to a couple as we were leaving and they were checking out days early for the same reason....food in restaurant was excellent, wine chosen by waiter was top notch too-and very reasonable. View from terrace fantastic. Didn't spot the breakfast chef as he was hiding behind a pillar-so we didn't get to sample the hot options for brekkie...look out for him!

What a beautiful hotel, with an awesome view overlooking the Rhine and having enough history to fill a book. The kitchen is fantastic, the buffet breakfast is as good as you will find anywhere and the wine menu is extensive and relatively reasonable. Be sure to make dinner reservations and request a table by the window. There is also a patio that you can enter through the gift shop where you can enjoy a beer outdoors watching the boat traffic on the Rhine. I would definitely recommend the half pension. The meal offerings are a wonderful dining experience. Our room was in the new annex and was spacious and very comfortable. There was a small buffet with drinks and pastries available in the annex and there is free WiFi. This is a great stay.
