My husband took me there as a surprise on Thanksgiving. It was cold and there was some snow on the ground, but it was amazing. The staff were great. The food was good. The chef had spent time in the states and so we were able to communicate just fine. He was friendly and helpful as was everyone else.We even walked down the mountain into St Goar and the people were very friendly there as well. Although the pool wasn't quite as warm as I would have liked, my husband loved it. All in all we had a great time, although the castle part was closed and I would have liked to have gone exploring there. But I loved it.

Stayed one night in the villas portion of the hotel. Beautiful Rhine view from our room. Before dinner, we went to the restaurant to see if we could get a table for dinner. A gruff hostess told us there was nothing available, even though we were staying at the hotel. We went to the casual restaurant with a terrace, only to find that it was closed. We went down the hill to St. Goar and had a wonderful meal at a restaurant right on the Rhine. When we returned to our room, the phone rang...it was someone from the restaurant calling to ask, in a demanding tone, why we had not shown up for dinner! Not being very happy about the situation, my Husband went down to see the Manager, who gave us a glass of wine at the bar, then ignored us from then on. The next morning, we had breakfast, which was very good, with a table right at the window with an incredible view. We wrote a letter to the Company when we returned home, never received an answer. This hotel caters to conventions and organized groups, individuals don't seem to be a priority.

We stayed for one night on our way back home. We choose the hotel for its combination: a hotel with restaurant and it’s magnificent view. The latter is indeed wonderful, the rest is a bit disappointing. Given the fact that we travelled with our two small kids we booked a room in the main building (the restaurants are located there as well). First hassle is to get in with a buggy: no elevator for the first stairs: but then again it’s a old building. The room itself was 70’s style with a small bathroom: not 4 stars worth I would say. The free baby cots were okay and the extra bathrobe in kids size were very attentive. The hotel has a spa and a swimming pool, we used the latter and it was fine although maybe a bit small for such a large hotel and the floor was extremely slippery. Dinner was the worst during our trip trough Germany: mass production and dull. Breakfast was okay, but overall the stay wasn’t worth the money.

Stayed for two nights as part of a group. The rooms are either in the main hotel or separate newer buildings. I stayed in the newer part and was very impressed with the quality throughout. My room as most do had a fantastic view down on to the Rhine. The food was pre arranged and was varied and very good. Service was also very good. The only issue we had was parking as there was a scout event on at the same time, but we managed.

It really is in a castle (and adjacent buildings), does have a pool/sauna/etc and a restaurant with a view of the Rhine. The rooms are very cosy german (and doubtless if you can afford it elegant expensive german ) the internet works, the staff are very helpful. My wife is of the view that the breakfast is the best in the world. I am not inclined to disagree. St Goar is lovely, as are the nearby Rhine towns. Lying in bed listening to the barges on the Rhine is a special experience.

This hotel is a real castle located above a quaint little town overlooking the Rhine river.

We stayed for one night in the terrace room but could have stayed longer.

Pros:
Free parking
Free Internet with a connection (no wifi)
spacious rooms with a great view.
Great German style breakfast
Free access to pool and eucalyptus sauna
Modern bathrooms
Ability to tour the ruins across the lot at 4 euro PP. We don't recommend the small mine tour but the large one was nice. The small one requires crawling in mud and a flashlight, not a candle.
Short walk down to town for restaurants

Cons:
the flooring was a bit threadbare.
Lots of steps but to be expected in old hotel
restaurants in city didn't look amazing and were shrouded in flies
Expensive hotel menu and wines. Get your wine in the city and bring it up to drink on the terrace.
Some of the room pamphlets were in english but only about 30%.
Internet cable was a bit worn so bring your own if you can.

Overall an absolutely amazing experience. The pros far outweigh the cons.

We arrived at the Castle, which I understand is the largest remaining on the Rhein, the second sunday of August when a local traditional celebration was taking place, which added something to our stay.
The castle has plenty of character even if the residential part is in some way lost its pristine look. The new added villa in which we stayed, offers spectacular view from the superior rooms onto the River and is very very peaceful. is worth staying there versus the main building.
The hotel however has very nice terraces, indoor and outdoor, for drinks, relax, with view of the river and so the restaurant.Nice atmosphere.

Room Tip: stay in the new villa and not i n the main building.
