“enjoyable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2012

It was early January and many restaurant were closed and I was highly recommended this restaurant. The service was outstanding, and I really loved the fit out of the restaurant, sadly the cooking of the food did not quite hit the same standard. It was enjoyable, but a little more love in the kitchen and this would have been amazing.

“Excellent gourmet food in an elegant atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2011

We were looking for a restaurant that serves gourmet fare with a focus more on seafood, and less on wild meats, to celebrate a special occasion and decided to try out Freundstück at Ketschauerhof. Wow! We were rewarded with a beautiful culinary evening. Set in a spacious dining room that combines historical building architecture with modern interior furnishing in cream-colored scheme that is quietly elegant, the first impression sat well. We chose the 10-course surprise menu and the accompanying wine recommendations. After 2 tasty "kitchen greetings", the 1st course was mackerel sashimi with cedric lemon, together with a Suavignon Blanc, that was a heavenly start, esp for fish lovers that we are. This was followed by the finest duck liver and foie gras gateau ever, served with a butter brioche. The delicate taste was amplified by a sweet Riesling-Eiswein. 2 fish courses followed, rose fish (perch), and Atlantic trout. Then, we had a rocket-filled tortellini with clams, and a beautifully aromatic veal broth with plum wantons, both went very well with the Chardonnay. The next course was tender lamb filet, a piece served grilled and nicely pink inside, and a piece was served stewed. Fantastic, accompanied with a Syrah. The final 3 courses were a fresh cheese boat, n 2 sweets that were just the right finish to the evening. We could only find fault with 1 course, the rocket-filled tortellini that was a tad too salty and a clam that was sandy. All the other courses were delicious and perfectly presented. Service was very friendly and attentive. It appears that this restaurant believes in team work - at least 6 different people served us that evening ;)
