This is my second stay in good ol' cuxhaven. This BW property is a standard hotel but has the "best" restaurant in town for lunch and dinner. I did not partake as looking at the menu, it was quite expensive and per some of the locals, service is really slow.
Staff- The hotel front desk staff was always a little distracted in the back room playing minesweeper or internet surfing i suppose. The one older lady who works the evening wasnt able to accomodate me switching from a room directly next door to a co-worker becuase they are fully booked in 3 days. i was trying to figure out how far in advance they assign rooms and how they cant make that switch, but what ever.
Ambiance - I found it interesting that prominently displayed among their local attractions books and other magazine were two Playboys. Not sure what that was about.

Room - The room was a little small and the shower was small compared to a larger franchise but at 90 euros a night, what can you expect. I had a single bed, it was a single bed. kinda comfortable, but quickly became uncomfortable. shower was hot and bathroom while a little tight, had a shaving mirror and hairdryer which were nice. room was fairly clean as well. Room temperature control was a little different as there isnt really a thermostat. you open the patio window if you want fresh air. thankfully it was a little chilly at night so not many insects were out. internet while sometimes fast, dropped an awful lot making it difficult to continue working or doing video chats back home.

Breakfast - breakfast was decent was several baked breads, waffles, and pre-made pancakes. several jams and jellies to choose from along with fresh fruit some. also have some hot food items (bacon, eggs, baked beans) along with a cold cut meat plate that has some options. several cheese options. Coffee was pretty good though. Cereals and juices was also there.

All in all a good basic hotel for Cuxhaven with some food kinda near by if you dont mind walking down dark streets to get to some.

Room Tip: good luck the ones to the right of the elevator when you come off appear to be all single rooms whil...

I was visiting the hotel as part of a business trip and it was fine. I had a small single room which was quite old fashioned, but clean and comfortable. We had a meal in the hotel restaurant which was nice, and the breakfast selection was also fine. Staff that I saw were pleasant and if I was in the area again, I see no reason why I wouldn't use the hotel again.

This hotel doesn't have a chain hotel feel to it. It seems more like a family run hotel. It's a short walk to the North Sea. There are also a few restaurants, bars, and shops a close walk from the hotel. The rooms are ok, nothing fancy and the bathroom is a bit small. Staff was helpful and friendly. Food in the hotel was fine. The price was fair for the service provided.

The hotel overlooks the North Sea beautifully. The rooms are large and comfortable and many have balconies. The restaurant is on the top floor with incredible views. Breakfast is also served on the top floor. The staff could not be more helpful. There is a large car park. Facilities around are good, ice cream bars, restaurants, North Sea trips (Holy Island, excursions etc). There are also many shops and they are not all "normal high street" ones.
We have now stayed at this hotel 9 times are looking forward to returning there again soon.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a North Sea view, the additional cost is minimal.

Neither the facade nor the room interior would have made my 5* rating. We had a double room on 5th floor with a balcony facing the shore. The hotel is not directly situated on the shore side but offered good views from our window. The room looked dated but very well maintained. A new bed-sofa, a new desk chair and a new tv set were nice touches. The bath room was new and clean. Strange enough, the lady's bath room for restaurant guests (restaurant on 6th floor) was opposite our room. After all, this did not disturb at all, since we had a double door shutting us off from hallway noise (if there was any). Overall we spent a quiet night here.
So, why 5* rating here? The staff was very nice and helpful. The restaurant was just excellent. It offers a very careful selection of food offerings. Fish and meat are prepared in a show kitchen. Beverage selection is very good as well. Our neighbour next table was a woman living on the island of Helgoland. She was a frequent guest here and so we got easily involved into some insider talk. The waiting staff was nice. The restaurant had a modern make up, the cutlery is this old "hotel silver cutlery" and had the "D" icon on it. All in all, we loved it.
Breakfast is served in a room next to the restaurant. Here we expected a time warp next morning back into the 70's. What did we find? Old fashioned indeed. Again, very nice staff. Coffee pot and tea pot of the same hotel silver cutlery fashion. An outstanding selection of food items including an excellent "bircher muesli".
Next morning. we made a carriage ride to "Neuwerk", a small island accessible during low tide. What an outstanding experience and adventure! (You need warm clothing) You can also hike there (tour guides exist), but the tide would allow for one way only.
We were sorry for leaving Donner's Hotel after one night already. I am looking forward to our next stay here. It is a rather expensive hotel, but due to the state of maintenance (ongoing renovations, I was told), the staff and the restaurant and breakfast experience, this is good value for money. We did not try the pool and sauna. The beaches are a bit further away, this hotel is connected to the town of Cuxhaven which is pleasant place.
Back at home we found a hand-written post card from the hotel staff thanking for our stay. This is a very rare experience.
Dear hotel staff, thank you!!!
