for a couple of euros this is well worth it, nice views on the way up, stop for a drink in the cafe, again with excellent views and enjoy the walk down to the town.
dont forget to pick up a rock prior to getting into the cable car, then drop it off at the renovation project at the top

“Fond memories of a bygone age and a brilliant way to "cheat" on the climb!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2011

The other reviewer has given an exceptionally detailed review and I whole-heartedly agree.

Just wanted to add that taking an old-fashioned cable car brings back very fond memories of my childhood spent visiting the Harz mountains on a weekly basis and this is one of the fondest- travel up to the top with the cable car, enjoy the fine views of the surrounding countryside from the look-out point, have a Bratwurst or other refreshments from the kiosk or the tourist cafe (it was being refurbished when I was there so I cannot now vouch for it. Though- the Bratwurst was lovely on the day we went up) before making your way down the very comfortable Wanderweg to return to the town below. The beauty of German paths is that they are designed to be comfortable walking with lovely deep pine needle "floors" where appropriate and log steps and rails where necessary.

There is a little museum about the Seilbahn at the station which might be of interest and the history of the "fort" up at the top is also worth checking up on.

I look forward to taking my 91 year old gran (the one who used to take me there when I was little) up next week! :D
