Owner description: Wellcome to Braunfels Castle! It looks a bit like in a fairy tale, but it is real. Located on the very top of a rock it wellcomes its guests from far. Since centuries its owned by the family, which is still living there. Braunfels is a charming little place with the huge castle right in the middle of it. Braunfels Castle itself offers an attractive variety of sightseeing possibilities, which however are a bit limited in wintertime (Nov.- March). Enjoy your stay in Braunfels!

We visited there today on a day trip. Really nice Castle. They weren't running English speaking tours but the tour guide did a great job of filling us in and I would have enjoyed the walk through the castle anyway. The town is nice and very medevil feeling with lots of half timbered houses. We actually had lunch though at a cafe at the Lidil. Two euros each for sandwiches. Rich Steves would have been proud of us..

This is one of my favorite castles to visit. The Solms family still resides here and were responsible for settling New Braunfels and Fredericksburg, Texas, besides being connected in some way or another to several other European royal families.

I have visited this castle twice and have received an excellent tour each time. It is 6€ with tour and are open 11 am to 6 pm. They ask that you call in advance to book an English speaking tour 064425002. There is a free parking lot about 200 m northeast below the entrance to the castle.

After the tour it is an easy walk down to the center of Braunfels where there are some cute cafes and restaurants. The Braunfels castle and town are well worth the visit.

Situated above Braunfels town within the town itself. A lovely walk all the way around the castle. Nice cafe for lunch.

Over the years I have brought many people to even most German unknown Castle. A tour trough this place is a must when you are in the region. Rich on history with many links to international Royals.
It's still occupied, but the oldest part is open for public.
